Vehicle Detail
I've decided to sell the 1977 Jaguar XJ12L I've owned for the past 20 years. It is an all matching numbers car in very original condition. Here are the details: History - I am the fourth owner, and know all three previous owners either personally or by reputation. The car has been garaged throughout its life and has seldom, if ever, been used as primary transportation. It has spent its entire life in south central Pennsylvania, but has seldom been out in the rain and rarely (quite possibly never) in snow. During my ownership (and, I believe, under the previous owners) it has been maintained at factory recommended service standards or better. It has been continuously licensed and roadworthy since new, with no extended periods of disuse or storage. Mechanical - The car is fuel-injected, so maintenance and fuel consumption are better than for earlier 4-carburator cars. The original 5.3 liter V-12 engine has never been apart and runs well. The original GM 400 transmission was rebuilt in 1990 and has been fine since then. The original Powr Lok differential has never been apart and continues to work well. The tires are 2 years old and have less than 1,000 miles on them. The car has antique tags and thus does not require Pennsylvania inspection, but I know of no issues that would prevent it from passing inspection. Body - The paint, which I believe to be original, is not quite as good as it appears in the pictures. Although it still has good gloss, it has age-related crazing (too fine to capture in the pictures) and has some cracking, particularly on the bonnet (see picture). There are also the expected stone chips on the front panels and sills. There has never been any rust, and I have never found any evidence of accident damage. The chrome and window glass are all original and very good. Interior - The original leather remains supple and soft with no splits or perforations. The dash pad is intact with no cracks or fading. The original wood is in good condition, with a few cracks in the finish (see pictures). The cracks were present in 1990 when I bought the car and have not changed appreciably since then. The original Wilton wool carpets have been covered since new and are in very good condition. The headliner wool is clean and in good condition, but there are several slight indentations where the foam backing has apparently deteriorated (these are in the headliner picture, but are hard to see). The boot is clean and unmarked, with all original tools and a full size spare tire. All accessories work, including the clock and A/C. In 1990, I replaced the original radio/8-track player (which was still working well) with the current Pioneer radio/cassette player. The original unit and all the 8-track tapes that came with it are included with the car, as are the owner's manual and a workshop manual. Other Stuff - You can't own a relatively rare car for 20 years without accumulating parts 'just in case'. In addition to the radio, tapes, and manuals mentioned above, the sale includes 2 NOS ignition rotors and 1 NOS distributor cap, a good used ECU, a beautiful used dash pad that I rescued from a junkyard, and several other new or used parts I've accumulated over the years. I'll be happy to answer any questions promptly through eBay. I don't need a deposit on conclusion of the auction; if you don't think the car meets the above description, you don't owe me anything. However, I do expect full payment in cash (or equivalent) within 7 days of the end of the auction and before the car leaves my possession.
