Vehicle Detail
Big Block 454 Hi Performance custom built race engine. 450 HP LS6 style with a 1970 Turbo 400. Comes with a free 1983 Impala sleeper know as the “Gray Ghost”. Up for auction for the first time is this very unique car from famed engine builder and racer Bob Woods. The Bob Woods collection of cars and racing parts were recently sold to help ease the financial burden of his care due to his long battle with ALS, commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. According to Muscle Car Review magazine, “Woody’s street machines were subtle but brutally effective. He preferred the sleeper vibe”. This sleeper Impala was built by Bob Woods in 2001, the year before he began to have symptoms of ALS. This car and several others were kept in his heated basement in Springfield Ma. The Bob Woods Pro Stock Camaro, that was parked next to the “Gray Ghost” was sold to the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing. The Bob Woods story was outlined in an article and photo shoot in the December 2009 issue of Muscle Car Review magazine under “Barn Finds” I am listing this auction for my father. He bought this car from Bob Woods’s guardians. He drove the car up to Lebanon Valley Dragway in the fall of 2009 and made three passes. The car turned in a 14.5 second pass on skinny radials, and a 2.48 geared open rear end. It has huge possibilities. The motor and transmission are worth way more than the reserve price for the whole car. Because Bob Woods has not been able to speak or communicate since 2004, the following information was taken from his hand written notes that came with the car, receipts, conversations with his close friends, the Muscle Car Review article and visual inspection of the car. We are listing this information as accurately as possible. 1983 Chevrolet Impala. 4-door. Very drivable, with only 54000 miles on odometer. Bob Woods built 454 big block.
