Vehicle Detail
2000 Mercedes S500 - NO RESERVE! You are looking at an Almandine Black 2000 Mercedes S500 purchased new in Austin, TX on December 3rd, 1999. This car has been meticulously maintained by Mercedes Benz of Austin even after the expiration of the warranty (have all records). My wife and I purchased the car from the original owners one year ago because we were expecting a baby girl and we needed a safe way of transporting her around (at the time, we owned a 1929 Model A Ford and a pink Vespa). About three months ago, we moved downtown into a condo highrise and we now walk just about everywhere and no longer need a car (we belong to a carshare called Car2Go). Anyway, hate to sell her, but there is no reason why she should just sit in a garage week after week not being driven. I will do my best to describe the condition and features, but don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like more information or pictures of specific parts of the car. Please keep in mind this is a NO RESERVE AUCTION starting at 1 cent - someone is going home with this car! EXTERIOR The exterior of the car is finished in what Mercedes calls 'Almandine Black.' In reality, she's a purple Mercedes (not sure why cars can't just be 'yellow' or 'brown' anymore). Anyway, don't worry - it's actually quite beautiful and really just looks like a deep metallic black with a hint of a purple sheen in the right light. The car has been garaged it's entire life (even when at work) and as a result, the paint and headlights show very well for their age. All exterior features work (self closing doors and trunk; auto dimming rearview mirrors; parking sensors; auto locks; all exterior lighting including self-leveling Xenon headlamps). A couple other things to note: 1. The driver's side mirror has a small bit of fogging on the top 1/4 (you can see it in the images below). The mirror is still very usable, it's just not very obvious unless you're looking for it. 2. The car's front bumper was scraped against a wall by a valet in early 2009 and all repair work was performed Continental Collision Center here in Austin. I don't find a record of the work in the carfax, but I have the invoice stating what was done. The video at the bottom is a walk-around of the entire exterior and points out the small flaws (dings) in the finish. INTERIOR The grey leather interior is in very nice shape - no rips or tears anywhere on the seats and only a few minor spots of to-be-expected wear on the driver's seat and steering wheel (steering wheel looks dirty, but it's actually just the dye wearing off). There is a small tear (size of a kernel of corn) on the passenger side of the rear console (see pictures of the rear seats below). All interior electrical items work as they should (from the tilting/sliding sunroof to the heated and ventilated power front seats. The floor mats do show their age, but have protected the interior carpet well (see pictures below). One thing to note: The gauge cluster was replaced under warranty a little over a year ago (the original cluster went dark and it was part of some-sort of recall) and the new cluster got a little bit of fog on the inside of the plastic lens about three months ago. I took it in and they said the only remedy for the slight fog is to replace the cluster again, only I'd have to pay for it this time ($600). I opted out of replacing it simply because the cluster works fine, but as you can see in the photos, it just has a little fog near the speedometer. MECHANICAL This car has every single maintenence record since new (and has always been maintained by Mercedes Benz of Austin. The vehicle history report notes a few emissions failures and I have those records as well noting what was fixed in order for the car to pass (O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction). Let me know if you'd like any history about the car - I've got it all. The tires have a little over 30k on them (installed at 121k) and have free lifetime balance and rotation (all paperwork is included). The tires were just balanced and rotated at 151,000. In the past year, the following large items have been replaced: New thrust arms ($1039), new brakes including pads, rotors and sensors on all four wheels ($1224), new transmission mount ($250), new plug wires and suppressors ($1015), SRS control unit ($1408). In addition, she's also had both A and B services, with the A service being completed less than 50 miles ago (oil change, new battery, air filters and state emissions test/inspection). Well, I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking (also three videos at the bottom) - feel free to contact me if you have any questions at all and thanks for looking! On Aug-17-10 at 17:51:45 PDT, seller added the following information: A/C For those of you wondering about the A/C, here's a picture I took about half an hour ago. Car was started, left at idle and the A/C was set to 'LO' (you can see the temperature probe in the center vent). According to the ambient temp gauge, it was 91F outside and it took a little less than a minute to hit 48F. Anyway, you get the idea... the A/C works REALLY well (the system was also just inspected when it was in the shop getting the SRS module and the A Service). On Aug-18-10 at 05:14:01 PDT, seller added the following information: If you have 0 Feedback, I will cancel your bid unless you contact me within 3 hours of bidding. Not to be an ass, but I'm not going to take the chance in ruining this auction for everyone else.
