Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1956 Oldsmobile "Ninety-Eight" 4 door Sedan. This car has a rocket V-8 324 C.I.D, 240 HP motor with quadri-jet carburator. It has a hydra-matic Jetaway Transmission. Factory extra's are power steering, power brakes, Am radio, clock, heater and air conditioning. AC does not work. When it was restored, my father decided not to restore the AC. This car is in excellent running condition. A unique feature of this car is that on both front fenders are the chrome words "Holiday". Why these are there, I don't know. I think that the factory ran out of "Ninety-Eight" fenders and put on "Holiday" fenders. When the car was restored by my father, he kept the fenders the same way. This car was restored in 1993 and was driven approximately 500 miles since that date. Included in the restoration was a rebuilt engine, 4 new tires (white wall, period correct B.F. Goodrich Silvertown 7.60-15), painted in original factory colors (Shantung Beige #63 and Island Coral #66), front and rear bumpers were re-chromed, all stainless steel trim polished to original appearance, new headliner, new carpet, and a new battery. Included with the car is a 1956 oldsmobile shop manual (a large thick book published by Oldsombile Division, Lansing, MI), Chilton shop manual, approximately 1 cup each of the two paint colors, owners manual, A.C. manual, owner service policy manual, several oil filters, complete set of new spark plug wires, 8 new A-C spark plugs R-45 sealed, new sealed "U" joint, car cover, and the original set of keys. All glass is original and the body is rust free and solid. There are a few minor things wrong with this car. It does have the original seats, but there are two tears on the drivers seat (notice picture). Back seat is in excellent condition. Front door arm rests have been repaired with glued-on vinyl (notice picture). The back doors are in original and excellent condition. Inside of the glove box is missing. Pot metal trim has moderate bubbling (notice picture). Lower passenger dash has small dent (notice picture), rear door sill plate has minor metal fill repair, frame and leaf springs were not resored to original appearance, and there is very minor amount of dust in paint finish in a few areas. This car is in excellent driving condition and is clean and sharp. It is a real head turner. This car has been in the family since new. It was purchased new by my father's uncle. I was 16 years old that year with a new driver's license when my uncle asked "would you like to take it for a spin". "Oh yes" I said and he said "well then, go for it." What a car, it had all the bells and whistles. The air conditioned "98" Holiday was purchased by my uncle for a special road trip from Illinois to California. So off they went, my uncle, his wife and two sisters-in-law. They cruised through the Arizona desert all the while being cooled by the air conditioning. They got their kicks on Route 66. My uncle passed the car onto my father who restored it. I did help a little with the restoration process. My father in turn passed it on to me in 1995. The car has been stored in my garage covered since that time. I did take it out a few times. I entered it in the Grayling Car show in 1997 and won the Peoples Choice trophy. The reason that I am selling the car is because I just purchased a new car and need the garage space. Also, I know that the reason my father lovingly restored the car was so he could enjoy driving it. I would like to see the car go to someone that will get the same enjoyment out of it as he did. I do have other pictures if you want to see more. Just let me know your email address and I'll send them to you. Please contact me through Ebay only. On Aug-15-10 at 06:29:46 PDT, seller added the following information: 8-15-2010 I was so concerned about how the motor was running and how the car looked that I forgot to check the clock and the radio. I am sorry to say that they are both not working. The radio lights up but there is no sound and the clock, the knob that turns the hands, just came out of the clock. On Aug-17-10 at 09:36:49 PDT, seller added the following information: 8-17-2010 Yes, the reserve has been met! Also, I wanted to clarify a few things. This car was painted in a clean garage, not by professionals. The paint job does have some minor dust, but to me, was done very well. I forgot to mention, there is a glass jar with a lid that holds a pump for the windshield wiper fluid. There are not any hoses hooked up to it, so I don't know if it works. There are tiny holes at the base of the wipers where the fluid would come out. Also, the hub caps on the car are original. There are a few hammer marks on the hub caps, someone did not use a rubber mallet when putting them back on. The replaced tan head liner was sown by a professional, very nice. The replaced carpet is dark brown. The replaced carpet in the trunk is two toned brown. I do have extra pictures if any one is interested.
