Vehicle Detail
In 1975, the Chrysler Cordoba was introduced to compete in the personal luxury market. Based on the B body platform, it was a huge success, selling over 150,000 units, and accounting for half of all Chrysler's sales that year. 1979 was the final year for the large B body Cordoba. That year, Chrysler introduced a "300" model that was based on the Cordoba. Although it was essentially a Cordoba with a special "300" package ( code A-74), It had a special crossbar grille reminicent of the Chrysler 300s of the 1950s and 60s, and red, white and blue 300 emblems. All 300s where white with red leather interior, and all came with the high performance E-58 360 4bbl. engine. Only about 4,000 were built. 1980 saw a complete redesign for the Cordoba. They were downsized and were based on the J body platform, which was the same as the F body ( Aspen/Volare) and M body ( Lebaron/Diplomat). In the interest of fuel economy, the 225 c.i. "slant six" engine was the standard power plant in the Cordoba for the first time ever. Chrysler originally intended to continue the 300 model Cordoba in 1980 with this car. However, I believe that due to the second energy crisis that started in '79, they decided to re-market this car as an entry level, "youth oriented" Cordoba. It was called the Cordoba "LS". LS stood for "luxury sport". The standard E-58 360 from the 79 300 was no longer standard. There were only 3,252 LS models made in 1980 and most had the slant six engine. 744 had the 318 2bbl. ( like this one), and only 17 were ordered with the E-58 360. I have never seen one of those! Although technically not a 300, the LS did have its own serial number designation, SS22. It also sports all the red, white and blue "300" emblems and has a unique rubber front fascia that really sets it apart from the more formal looking standard Cordoba. There was also a special "300" decor package available, although this particular car does not have it. To say this car is rare is a huge understatement! Total production was only 3,252 cars and only 46 were built with T tops! I have owned this car since the early 90s and I have never seen another example with T tops. This may very well be the only one left in existence! Although these cars are not very valuable, and might never be, I feel they are very under-rated. It certainly is a striking and very good looking car, and in my opinion, is one of the best looking cars of the era! Another plus is although the car is super rare, it shares a chassis with one of the the most common cars (Diplomat/5th Ave.). Mechanical parts will always be plentiful, and there are lots of suspension upgrades for these cars, and kits for installing a big block 440. I really hate to sell this car, I've had it a long time and I love it. I'm hoping to find someone who will love it also. The tired original 318 and transmission has been replaced with a healthier 360 and 727 trans. The original eng. and trans. go with the car or will be disposed of. The car has had the entire floor replaced in the mid 1990s, they were rusted out from the leaky t tops. The drivers frame rail was recently repaired and is solid. The only other rust on the vehicle is the lower rear quarters. The car runs and drives good, but I wouldnt recommend driving it a long distance as it has a driveline vibration at freeway speeds and has some carburator issues that make it use alot of gas. There is no carpet in the car, that keeps the floor from getting rusty if the tops leak. With a nice paint job and some motor work, this could be an awesome one of a kind car! There are alot of parts that go with the car including rustfree 1/4 panels, spare nose, extra T tops, extra set of red seats, door panels, steering column and wheel, taillight assemblies, marker lights, console lid, lots of smaller parts These parts are somewhat valuable and I am selling them separately: perfect red dash assembly, looks N.O.S. NOS T top/window seals NOS door panel top mouldings NOS brushed aluminum radio/dash bezel NOS red/wh/blu trunk mediallion I will include all these NOS parts with the car if buy it now is used or if bidding exceeds the buy it now price. THE CAR CAN BE PICKED UP AT THE MOPAR NATIONALS AUG 13 14 15. I LIVE LESS THAN 20 MILES FROM THE TRACK. BRING A TRUCK AND TRAILER
