Vehicle Detail
This rare and beautiful 1930 Desoto Model CK Convertible Coupe is in excellent condition. It has had the same owner for over 25 years, and has a high quality older restoration which is still in very fine shape. It is ready to drive and enjoy! ( Some recent restorations ) HISTORY: The Desoto debuted in 1929 as Chrysler's answer to the Pontiac and Oldsmobile of General Motors, and was an instant success. Of the over 12,000 model Cks manufactured in 1930, the convertible was the rarest with only 184 built, and this is believed to be the only one surviving. The convertible was also the most expensive of the models that year. This particular car was bought new at the J.E. French Desoto agency in Berkeley, CA by a Mrs. Gibbs, who lived on Arch St. and worked at the University of California. Although she drove very little, it served as her regular transportation for over two decades. When she bought a newer car, she found she couldn't bear to part with the Desoto so she stored it in the garage. Upon her retirement from the University in 1976 she sold her house, and it was in that year that the current owner was able to purchase the car from her. The car at that time was solid and rust free with very low mileage, but it had deteriorated from its years of storage so a complete ground up restoration was undertaken. The beautifully restored Desoto received awards at the Chrysler Club National as well as the prestigious Silverado Concours d'Elegance, and was photographed by Chrysler Corporation's Detroit archives. Since its restoration the car has been meticulously maintained and has participated in numerous tours and rallies. It has always performed flawlessly, and total recorded mileage is still under 79,000. It's latest trophy was July,10,2010, in Virginia, “!st Place”, and,” Best In Show”. MECHANICAL: This car is in top mechanical condition, and ready to drive anywhere. The famous Chrysler Flathead six engine always starts right up, idles smooth, and has plenty of power. It doesn't leak or burn oil, and has excellent compression and oil pressure. With the counterbalance crankshaft, four main bearings, and full pressure lubrication this engine exhibits much more performance and endurance than a Model A Ford or Chevrolet of the same vintage. The fuel system and cooling system are in excellent shape; the car never overheats. The four wheel hydraulic brakes, which were very advanced for the day, are also in fine condition. The car has just been fitted with new tires, battery, and fan belt. The fuel pump and carburetor were rebuilt in July, 2010. I would not hesitate to drive this car anywhere! COSMETIC: Although the car was restored over 20 years ago, it still looks great. It has always been kept garaged and covered, and carefully cleaned after each use. The paint is in fine shape with only the most superficial flaws here and there. All the chrome looks great, and the canvas top is in excellent condition with only some very minor discoloration. The interior upholstery is in excellent condition and is genuine leather, with the rumble seat trimmed in a dark brown vinyl to duplicate the original oilcloth. This is a striking car, and is always a favorite at meets and shows. Overall this beautiful car is ready to provide its lucky new owner with years of fun and enjoyment. It is lovely in every respect, and has proven itself safe and reliable on numerous tours. Its exceptional looks, fine condition, and extreme rarity insure that it will prove to be an excellent long term investment. This car is one of a kind in existence. TERMS: The car is sold as is, with buyer responsible for transportation. I am confident the car could be driven anywhere but if shipping is necessary, I can assist in shipping as I have sold a number of collector cars on eBay and all buyers are very happy with the transactions. I will provide references if desired.
