This ain't a hot rod and should not be made into one! A truck for the true original truck enthusiast. A very solid all original 1950 F-1 truck. A Missouri truck and then brought to Alabama where it was purchased from my father in law. Truck was bought in 1994 since it was original and solid (I wouldn't buy a classic any other way). Restoration was conducted from 1997 through 1999 in Coral Gables, Florida (Home of the Miami Hurricanes!). Although truck was drivable, my goal was to restor it and bring it back to its glory days and show off a true classic. Rebuilding was done to include pistons, rings, crankshaft, rods, timing chain etc.... The chassis and body were sandblasted and painted with a 1960's Mustang green color. It should be noted that the original color was a much lighter green with no shine to it. Therefore the paint color is the only feature not original. The truck had all its chrome cleaned and reattached. Other work included redoing starter, water pumps, generator, radiator, carburator, etc. New trim was placed in fenders, doors, glass. Bottom line, too much to mention because we went through the whole truck from the bottom up. Engine: Original flat head 8 cylinder. No custom or modification work other than rebuilding to keep original. The engine works fine. Engine has approximately 500 miles of use. Driven for few miles on weekends. Has been parked for the last two years. Transmission: Clutch was rebuilt. Transmission has 3 speed + granny. Rear Axle: The axle was dismantled and rebuilt. Brakes: Good rebuilt system. Needs to be pumped if not used/driven for a while. Interior: Seat upholstery (vinyl) in very good shape. Needs pieces around bakc window and ceiling light. (including light). Glass: Replaced with weather stripping, door chanels. A crack appeared on driver side window. Electrical/Gauges: A 6 volt system with a brand new 8 volt battery (cranks perfect with it). Ignition button and key work perfect. At the time of the restoration, all interior/exterior lights worked including the added flasher and directional. New owner would have to redo rear lights as they are on all the time. Speedometer and tacometers have to be restored. Body: All the metal is original with the truck. No after market body parts (look at the bed on the outside). I have to say that the body is in good shape with very few spots where I can see some rust showing up through the paint. Small dent on one fender and a crack on a running board. In a scale between 1 and 10, I give the body a conservative 8. The new and lucky owner will have a beatiful original truck to play with as far as paint and some rust work (if he wants to) and some electrical work. Not bad at all.
