Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is my 1968 Ford Thunderbird. She is a great car, very comfortable, and a lot of fun. I hate to see her go, but home, money, and kids force the sale. I would love to see her go to a good home and to someone while will treat her well. I absolutely LOVE this car, and hate to sell her. There is only one reason that she has to go... I love something else even more. My daughter is 7 years old and was born with Severe Autism. At the moment we are in danger of not having our lease renewed Expenses with my daughter, and life in general have put us a little behind with rent. If selling the T-bird means that my daughter is happier and healthier, and has a roof over her head, then the car loses, and out of the garage she goes. The thought of being displaced with a severely Autistic 7 year old is absolutely terrifying to us, and we need to do everything that we can to ensure that that doesn't happen. If you would like to know more about her, my wife has set up a twitter account to document day to day life with a severely autistic child. It can be found at http://twitter.com/autismlove. If you would like to learn more about Autism in general, You can go here: http://www.autism-society.org. There is a reserve on the car, and I just can't go below the reserve. It is set at exactly the amount that we need for to get us back in the black with our housing situation, and not a penny more. The car is completely stock, and is, for the most part, a survivor car. The only thing that has been done to it was a paintjob about 8 years ago. She is a numbers matching car with the 429 Thunderjet engine. This car only has 56,440 original miles on it!!! You won't find another one like it anywhere. The vacuum system works great, but is a little slow at times, new vacuum hoses should fix that, though. All the glass is intact, and in good condition (although the windshield is a bit pitted from sitting under a tree before I got her). It still wears the original license plates from 1968. The car comes with the original manual, as well as the 1968 Thunderbird supplement that came with the 429 model. Any trim pieces that you see are missing on the exterior are in the trunk. I also have extra parts in there, like an extra hubcap or two, and a NOS clock, a period correct FM conversion unit for the radio, etc... This car has every option available to it, save for two, the tilt away steering wheel, and the overhead console. She is in great shape all around, with a little bubbling under the paint when I say a little, I mean very little), and some nicks and surface rust (but you really have to look to find it). There is no rust through anywhere on the car. The tires are good, the brakes are excellent. The brake light on the dash is on, and I have yet to figure out why. The interior is absolutely gorgeous!!! All black, with aluminum trim. And yes, this car does have the much coveted "restaurant booth" rear seat. The only interior issues are a quarter sized hole in the headliner over the passenger seat, and two very small tears in the drivers seat. All three are quick and easy fixes. Ok, so on to the known issues... ~She is running (although a bit rough), and I have been driving her back and forth to work lately. The carb needs to be rebuilt, though (Holley 4bbl, easy rebuild). ~There are several minor electrical issues. One of the door switches that turn on the interior lights when you open the door is missing, the other is damaged. The ignition switch is loose in it's housing, and won't snug down, so the rear of the switch must be held when starting the car. And finally, the turn signal switch in the steering column needs to be replaced. This car has the sequential turn signals, and the signal board in the back has tested out as fine. ~There are a couple of issues with the power window switches, but they are still available and can be replaced very easily. ~At the moment, the drivers side window is off track and needs to be reseated. ~The air conditioning compressor is bad, but there is a replacement unit in the trunk. ~The exhaust could use a little work, but a couple quick and easy welds should do the trick. ~ The car is a bucket seat car, not a bench seat. ~The car Does Not have the overhead console. Please excuse the carpets. I didn't vaccuum them when I shot the pictures (but they will be before the car leaves the garage). The carpets are in excellent shape, with no rot or damage, they were simply dirty at the time. The odometer shows 56,152.9 in the picture, but I have driven her a little bit since then. The actual mileage is 56,440. Overall this is an excellent car, in great shape. I am going to be extremely sad to see her go, and would love to find a good home for her! The car does have a reserve that is absolutely my bottom line! Basically I am not looking to do any more than break even on her, so the reserve is extremely fair. The car is being sold as is, with no warranty implied (I mean, c'mon, the car is 42 years old, and I am not a car dealer). If you have any questions, just respond to this ad. I will be happy to answer anything and everything. I am offering the car for local pickup only, as I really have no idea how to arrange shipping. If that is something that you are familiar with, and want to do all the legwork on, I will be happy to ship anywhere in the world (keeping in mind that the car and the title don't leave my hands until everything is paid in full and cleared).
