Vehicle Detail

1972 MG Midget. This is considered to be one of the best years for Midgets with chrome bumpers and 1275 cc engine. History: I bought it from the couple who owned it for the past 16 years. Car was stored outdoors, under a cover for a few years. I towed it home, put a new battery and gas in it and it started right up. Oil pressure gauge indicates about 65 psi. I haven't driven it because the clutch pedal goes to the floor. I've run out of time to work on it so it must go! Condition: Car runs and has a clear Illinois title. It has some surface rust, at least one bondo spot on the trunklid, and a few rust bubbles behind both rear wheels, the rear apron, and in front of the doors. Otherwise it appears to be pretty solid, including the floors, rocker panels, trunk, etc. It has been repainted some time ago, it seems that the car was probably originally "Harvest Gold" or "Bronze Yellow". It has had fog lights, a Blaupunkt stereo, aftermarket air filters and a roll bar added but otherwise appears to be unmodified. I planned to do some quick repairs, a paint job, and drive it as a fun summer car and it doesn't seem as though it would be too hard to do that. If you want a "show" car or to do a complete restoration this would be a good start but it would need almost everything redone to achieve show condition. The top is gone, it crumbled and blew off while I towed the car home. The top frame and latches are there and seem to work fine. The interior is dirty and a bit worn and weathered but seems complete and useable. The tires hold air but are fairly weathered. One headlight is missing and its trim ring is dented and one front marker light is missing. Odometer shows 74,195 and while I can't verify its accuracy it seems plausible based on the wear on the car. If you are looking for a car to drive immediately this is not the one for you. If you want a fun project, here you go! Questions? I've got as lot more photos of various parts of the car so send me your email address if you'd like to see anything specific. I've tried to describe the vehicle and its condition as best I can, if you have any questions please ask before you bid. Shipping: This car is sold as-is/where-is and any towing/trailering/shipping will be the buyers responsibility. On Jul-28-10 at 20:16:00 PDT, seller added the following information: Update July 28th: I bled the hydraulic clutch a little and have now driven the car. The brakes are very soft and the clutch works but is still very soft. The brakes and clutch at a minimum need more thorough bleeding but may need other repairs as well, I haven't disassembled them for inspection. All 4 forward gears as well as reverse function without any unusual noises except for the whine in first gear that is normal for 1275 Midgets due to the straight-cut first gear. While the car still isn't ready to be driven home right away, it seems to be a whole lot closer than when I opened the auction!
