Vehicle Detail
Offered for sale is a 1981 Corvette Coupe that my wife has owned for about 8 years. In all that time, I don't think she has put 2000 miles on it. since we bought it, it has had the brakes redone, it has been painted, new seats, new carpet, new tires, and the Air Conditioning was repaired. I am afraid to add up what we've spent on it since 2002, not counting the $8000 we paid for it and shipped it from Ohio to Florida. The matching numbers original engine runs perfectly, and the more we drive it the better it gets. The 4 speed transmission shifts beautifully, and if I'm not mistaken, it was rebuilt just prior to us buying the car in 2002. 1981 was he last year to get a 4 speed Corvette, so that alone makes it more valuable. Also, this is originally a black on black car. Manual transmission cars with that color combination seem to be the most valuable from what I've noticed. The tires have approximately 500 miles of use, so other than a little clean up here and there, it really doesn't need anything. The power steering control valve was rebuilt last year, the air conditioning was fixed last week, and the stereo was replaced with a 10 disc CD changer mounted in the rear storage compartment. The car was painted in 2007, and has been stored inside since then. The wheels were polished in the last month or so also. As you can see by the photos, it looks great, but like any car, it has it's bad spots. The paint, while considered better than average / driver quality, it has a nick or chip here and there from being parked in the garage and walking around it. There is a spot near the door handle that looks a little wrinkly, but it's not noticeable in pictures, and very hard to see in person. The mirrored T-tops are in good shape, and generally speaking, its in very good shape overall. The exhaust sounds great, and the car doesn't need much to be very, very nice. I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere. It rides and drives great as it sits. There's no reason to buy a $5000-$7000 Corvette of this era, only to fix it up and spend thousands and thousands of dollars, when you can buy one like this and start enjoying it as soon as you get it. By the time you buy paint, tires, interior, A/C, and the normal little stuff, you will have a car worth a fraction of what you have in it. These Corvettes are going up in value as the earlier models are becoming unattainable to most people. I can take extra pictures if you need anything specific. I can answer any questions you may have by calling or texting 941-740-2277, or you can email me at northshorebill@aol.com. Mainly, i want you to have all of the information you need to make a decision. don't be afraid to ask, and please bid what you are comfortable paying. No Trades Please. The car can be seen most anytime with a little notice. I'm retired and have an open schedule, but still need a little notice to be there for you. On Jul-26-10 at 08:44:59 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for all for all of the questions. Just so everyone knows, the engine in the car isn't a L-48 or a L-82. In 1981, Corvettes got the L-81 engine. This one has been upgraded to include an aluminum intake and Edelbrock carb, Accel distributor, and the exhaust is the factory type header/manifold. The valve covers are also original. The shifter is original, and the shift ball was from my 65 Corvette. The wire you see laying along the console goes to the remote control for the CD changer. The rear view mirror fell off from sitting in the hot Florida sun ,but I'll re-install it before the car is picked up by the new owner. Yes, the power seat works, and most of the time, the power mirrors work. All of the gauges work from what I remember. Both power windows work, and the headlights work, even though they are a little slow moving occasionally. Keep the questions coming...I will answer as quickly as possible.
