Best of Show Automotive, LLC 7700 Tyler Boulevard Mentor Museum of Speed, Mentor, OH, 44060, US Phone : 440-350-1480 Email : joseph.carroll@bestofshowautomotive.com Rare, 8700 Actual Mile 1992 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 1LE! Every time I proclaim that we've acquired the nicest 3rd gen F body we've ever had another one pops out of the woodwork and blows us away! This one is as low mileage and beautiful as it is rare?this is a 8,377 original mile, MINT, 1LE package car! There were only 705 '92's built with that race-ready package, and this is definitely one of the finest remaining! Chevrolet built 705 Camaro's with "1LE" special performance compo¬nents equipment for 1992. As in 1989, 1990, and 1991, RPO 1LE was triggered by the RPO G92 performance axle package. RPO G92 with the 5 speed brought 3.42 gears to the table, and required the 305ci LB9 V8 with 5-speed manual (or 350/auto) and the KC4 engine oil cooler, C41 4-wheel disc brakes with 12" rotors and PBR aluminum Corvette calipers up front and larger 11.4 inch rear disc brakes with Corvette rear aluminum PBR calipers and the G80 limited slip differential. A dual-converter exhaust, aluminum driveshaft and spare wheel, special shocks and a stronger fuel pump, fuel pickup and better gas tank baffling made their way in, while fog lamps and air conditioning were deleted for weight savings and better air flow to the radiator, and creature comforts such as radios and power accessories are few and far between. Stiffer front and rear sway bars, shocks and springs and urethane bushings throughout were also part of the very comprehensive package. Even the transmission was tweaked: 5th gear bumped up to .74 from .67 for better pull down long straights! Couple this with 235hp and 300lbs/ft from the 305 and it's easy to see why Ford pulled out all the stops in building the '93 Cobra R?they were getting their butts kicked left and right! Chevy has built the car in extremely limited numbers since 1988 as a means for Camaro lovers to be more competitive in SCCA Showroom Stock road races. These races pit street legal Mustangs and Camaros in head-to-head competition which (until the introduction of the 1LE) normally saw the Mustangs dominating their Chevy counterparts. Normal IROCs where under-braked and overweight and simply could not keep pace with the leaner Fords. Most people are unaware about the early 1LE cars as no literature or road tests really exist for them, and nothing explains the package! Here are the RPO codes for this car: 9NN: SPRING, COMPUTER SELECTED, REAR, RIGHT HAND 84P: WHEEL COLOR GRAY (91) 81U: PRIMARY COLOR, EXTERIOR, BRIGHT RED (91) 8NN: SPRING, COMPUTER SELECTED, REAR, LEFT HAND 739: SEAT BELT COLOR, FLAME RED (91) 732: TRIM COMBINATION, LEATHER, FLAME RED (2) (91) 7DB: SPRING, COMPUTER SELECTED, FRONT, RIGHT HAND 6DB: SPRING, COMPUTER SELECTED, FRONT, LEFT HAND 1SA: Option Package 01 1LE: PERFORMANCE PACKAGE COMPONENTS 1A2: SEO VEHICLE, PUBLIC SERVICE Z28: MERCHANDISED PKG, SPECIAL PERFORMANCE V73: ANTENNA, FIXED VAN: ASSEMBLY PLANT, VAN NUYS, CA UQ9: SPEAKER SYSTEM, DELETE UL5: RADIO, DELETE UB3: CLUSTER, INST, OIL, COOL TEMP, VOLTS, TRIP ODOM, TACH QLC: TIRE ALL, P245/50ZR16/N BL R/PE ST TL HW4 N96: WHEEL, 16 X 8, CAST ALUMINUM N64: WHEEL & TIRE,SPARE, SPACE SAVER, ALUMINUM N10: EXHAUST SYSTEM DUAL NP5: LEATHER WRAPPED, STEERING WHEEL AND SHIFT KNOB NA5: EMISSION SYSTEM, FEDERAL, TIER O MM5: MERCHANDISED TRANS, MAN 5 SPD PROVISIONS MK6: TRANSMISSION, MAN 5 SPD, B0RG WARNER, 2.95 1ST, O/D LB9: ENGINE, GAS, 8 CYL, 5.0L, TPI, HO K68: GENERATOR,105 AMP KC4: COOLING SYSTEM, ENG OIL J65: BRAKE SYSTEM, PWR, FRT & RR DISC JG1: SHAFT, PROP, ALUMINUM G92: AXLE REAR RATIO, PERFORMANCE G80: AXLE POSITRACTION, LIMITED SLIP GU6: AXLE REAR, 3.42 RATIO FE2: SUSPENSION SYSTEM, RIDE HANDLING E72: BODY LENGTH, INCR I8 INCH E52: DOOR RR, 83 INCH, WRAP AROUND D81: SPOILER, RR, AERO WING D8M: SENSOR, VEH SPD D55: CONSOLE, FRT COMPT, FLOOR D42: SHADE, RR COMPT SECURITY D35: MIRROR, OUTSIDE REAR VIEW D34: MIRROR, VISOR VANITY C41: HVAC SYSTEM, HEATER OUTSIDE AIR, WITH FAN B18: ORNAMENTATION, INTR, DELUX AR9: SEAT, FRT BKT, EUROPEAN STYLE, PASS A DRIVER RECL AM9: SEAT, RR, SPLIT, BACK, FLDG AJ3: RESTRAINT SYSTEM, FRT SEAT, INFLATABLE, DRIVER So how's that for a puzzler? No radio, no power anything?but how about some leather seats? That's the best part about cars?the odd combinations you can dig up! Look underneath and you'll find seriously clean floor pans and an all stock suspension right down to the part number tags! There's a Flowmaster muffler underneath but that's the sum total of changes underneath. Pop the hood for more of the same?a new battery is the sold deviation from stock here, belts and wires included! This car's part museum piece and part reference car for future restorations! The interior looks like it's straight out of a catalog. There are zero marks anywhere?anywhere! The headliner, carpet and all seats are absolutely perfect! You'll notice that there's now a Pioneer CD deck in the dash (and therefore speakers in the dash and doors) but the previous owner had the forethought to save the delete faceplate for the dash, so it's your choice to leave the radio in or hum along with the stock plate in place! The body is also near flawless. I counted four minor stone chips, and we didn't try to hide them or mask them so that you could see exactly how nice the car is! The paint is gorgeous from one urethane bumper to the other, from the spoiler and the hood "scoops" to the ground effects! The paint is absolutely original and has been show tremendous care. The wheels are in the same perfect shape and still sport their ZR50 "Gatorback" tires. That's right?16 years later it's still on its first set of tires! All lights and lenses are perfect, too! Condition alone justifies a premium price, and coupled with the very rare 1LE package this car becomes a highly sought after collectible! This is one of the quickest and is certainly the best handling and braking of all 3rd gen Camaros, and it's a 5 speed, which makes it all the more special in that it wasn't taken to the track and thrashed to within an inch of its life! 3rd gen T/A guys have their Turbo Trans Ams while this is the most desirable Chevrolet F body of the era! This is a race car that got lost on the way to the track and found itself garaged instead?this is the type of car that'll appreciate for a long time!
