Vehicle Detail
1926 Chrysler Imperial E80 7 Passenger Sedan This is a very beautiful and rare example of Chrysler's finest, which sold to a very elite few for $4,000 in 1926, the first production year for the Imperial model. The Chrysler Imperial was ahead of it's time with 4 wheel hydraulic brakes, electric start, 92 HP Flat Head 6 Cylinder with a top speed of 80 Mph. Restored two years ago, this car is ready to enjoy. It runs and drives nicely and fires up right away. Its classic lines, solid condition, and majestic presence draw a consistent crowd at car shows and cruise nights. Interior: Accommodates 7 passengers: 2 passengers in front + 3 in the very back + 2 jump seats Restored: the upholstery resembles the original in design, texture, and color The woodwork is unrestored, in good condition, and maintains it's gold inlay The hardware is unrestored, in good condition, and completely present The coach lights are all present and work Exterior: Finished in two-tone: brown and creamy yellow (paint is in good condition) All chrome is original and gleams Wood wheels are intact, unrestored, and solid (these draw a lot of attention, very impressive) Wood frames around the doors are in good condition (no rot and no sag) New suspension, clutch, exhaust Stunning hood ornament is still present (see factoid below - it's a work of art) Engine & Transmission: Original, intact, and in good running order The original 6 volt generator is still present (connected to a 12 volt inverter) Interesting Facts and Historical Information: In 1926, Chrysler built the Imperial series to compete with Cadillac and Lincoln. The Imperial's new engine was slightly larger than the company's standard straight 6. It was a 288.6-cubic inch (4729 cc) six cylinder with seven bearing blocks and pressure lubrication of 92 brake horsepower (69 kW). The car set a transcontinental speed record in the year it was introduced, driving more than 6,500 miles (10,460 km) in the week. The Imperial was chosen as the pace car for the 1926 Indianapolis 500. The model was designated E-80, the 80 being after the guaranteed 80 miles per hour (129 km/h) all day cruising speed. Acceleration was also brisk breaking 20 seconds to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h). The carvings outside the iconic art-deco Chrysler Building in NYC are inspired by the Imperial's stylish hood ornament.
