Vehicle Detail

Here is a REAL Z-11 Camaro Indy PaceCar Convertible that is going to be a great deal for someone who likes to play with cars! My loss is your gain. I am moving and unfortunately cannot see this project through. I bought this car in 2001 as a driver in fair condition from I believe was the third owner.. It was being stored and had not been driven for the previous 10 years. It came with the original bill of sale and finance contract from the selling Chevy dealer. Those documents are included with the car along with numerous pictures of the original owner on his wedding day with his bride in the car. Neat stuff you don't see everyday with 40 year old car..The car was pretty much all there. The car had gone through a previous cosmetic restoration in the eighties and was in need of another complete makeover. The car had both 1/4s replaced along with new door skins, new fenders and a new tail panel. The trunk and interior floor panels were patched with steel sheetmetal. The workmanship on the underside was ok at the time, but not up to today's concours restoration techniques. I'm sure at the time there was very limited replacement sheetmetal for the restorer so you made do with sheet steel. The door skins, fenders and 1/4's are most likely all GM pieces. I know the fenders are really heavy. The car also came with a n.o.s GM cowl hood in it's factory carton. A flat hood was installed on the car at the time of purchase. The original motor and trans were gone. but the 12 bolt rear end was still there. The car came with power steering and brakes, console, tilt steering column with a wood wheel and that's about it. No power windows or top or console gauges.. The car went right back into storage again after I purchased it. My plan was to do another restoration in stages at a higher quality than the first redo but not at a concours level because it is not a numbers car and the end wouldn't justify the means. I was either going to go stock appearing including the door decals and just add some options like power windows and air or do a restomod with a pro-touring theme like the Camaro that Kevin King built for himself at Year One and add some major horsepower with a 6 speed and suspension.mods. In 2008 I tore the car down to a rolling shell and put it on a rotessirie. I had the undercarraige including the rear axle, subframe and front suspension abrasive blasted and the body shell including the doors and fenders soda blasted. I cut out some of the rusted floor pans that were patched over and made the underneath much more presentable. The floors were all sprayed with flat black and the rear axle and front subframe were shot satin black. I installed new rear springs with all new mounting hardware. The gas tank mounting strap reinforcements still need to be installed as the tank is currently only temporarily strapped in with sheetmetal straps After that was to be taken care of, I planned on removing the front subframe and spraying the complete underside with Lizardskin sound deadener. Those items hadn't happened at that time instead the car was put back on all fours and prepped for paint. I installed a new header panel and deck lid, had all the bodywork finished and had it painted the correct Dover white with Hugger orange stripes in PPG acrylic urethane. The paint was wet sanded with 1500, buffed out and polished and looks beautiful. The interior is so nice the only parts I replaced were the carpet and sill plates. The seats, door panels, 1/4 trims and dash pad do not need replacing. They are that nice. The cluster housing has a hole in the center for what appears to have had a tach mounted there. May need to be replaced unless another tach can be mounted there. The console and console door are both cracked at the rear, but definately saveable and the woodgrain in front of the shifter has some screw holes drilled into it. The shifter is nice and does not need to be replaced. I have the shifter and speedo cables. The wood wheel is not pitted but does have some cracking at the spokes. The gauges, heater controls, heater box, pedals and pads, wiper and headlamp switches and knobs are all original and intact. Mileage shows 75,953. The tilt column is nice and tight and comes with keys. All lock cylinders work No radio. The motor is from a 1971 Chevelle SS 396 with a Turbo 400. The pad stamp is T0617CLB. The heads ,intake and exhaust manifolds are matching dates and come from the same motor I had the motor disassembled, hot tanked, magnafluxed and pressure checked. Everything, including the crank, pistons and rods checked out good. The crank has not been turned and the block retains a .030 over bore for a 396 that makes it a 402. There is no cam,oil pump, timing set, pulleys, distributor, air cleaner. The motor comes with crank, rods, pistons, rocker arms ,pushrods ,complete heads, water pump, balancer, carb and new chrome valve covers. The oil pan is an aftermarket chrome deep sump peice. The motor is a great candidate for a simple rings and bearings rebuild. No worries on the condition of the castings. I have the paperwork from the machine shop to verify the work done. The trans is a Turbo 400 of unknown origin or condition. The driveshaft appears to be original but could use new U-joints and a front yoke. The radiator is a new 4 core heavy duty big block unit with a new shroud. The master cylinder and booster have the correct castings and stampings and are probably the original ones to the car .Needs new brake and fuel lines but comes with new parking brake cables. I have all of the original wiring harnesses. Brakes are complete with new pads in front. The grille is new along with the headlamp assemblies. I was going to install a DSE electric headlamp door kit since I don't have any of the vacuum parts. The headlamp doors only open manually.Missing the sealed beams. The core support is a new part that I had powdercoated along with the bumper brackets, fender braces and other mics. brackets. The inner fender skirts are original. The parking lamps and tail lights and nice and clear and don't need to be replaced. The chrome is original and should be replaced. The windshield stainless needs attention also .I do not have any w/opening or rocker moldings. The wheels are 14" rallys with new center caps. I'd replace the trim rings. Tires are excellent and will work fine. The car needs a new convertible top but the frame is nice and functional and comes with the tack strips and a nice unbroken rain gutter. The windshield is useable as is but the rest of the glass is iffy. I was going to tint one piece and then make a decision. Worst case scenario; it's going to need new glass. This is the type of project that can be a lot of fun to finish. All the dirty work has already been done. Finish the car to your own taste. Either all stock or modified Start bolting on some new parts. Have a top put on (or not, it is summer) and you've got yourself a sweet car . On Jul-08-10 at 10:56:14 PDT, seller added the following information:The rear axle stamping is BL0501G. This decodes as a 3.07 assembled May 1st this is consistent with the build date on the car. I would assume it is original to the car. I would also like to clarify that the motor will not run as is. It needs to be rebuilt internally and is only assembled as a mock up.
