Vehicle Detail
Offered for your approval: my 1955 Hudson Rambler Custom. This car was built in the El Segundo, CA plant and sold by Trenfel Rambler in San Diego. It remained in San Diego County until I bought it in late 2008. It has been garaged since then. Plates expired in '98. You will find this is one of the most solid, rust-free unit-bodied AMC products still around. Most of the factory (or dealer)-applied undercoat is still in place. This Rambler would be a good candidate for restoration or just put on a Maaco paint job and have an attractive "driver" You will get more "looks" with this little Hudson at a cruise or show than a '57 Chevy. I have spent quite a bit of time under this car and found no evidence that it was ever in an accident. The Custom was the high-end model with the faancier trim level. It has the Hydra-Matic as used on Pontiac and other cars of the era so there are still parts available should it need repair. I know of no parts missing from this car except the trunk mat. I have the right side fender moulding that is missing in the photos, also have a NOS "Rambler" script to replace the broken one on the same fender. The following parts have been replaced: fuel pump, water pump, battery, brakes (including master cyl.), one axle shaft, generator. Radiator and gas tank were removed and cleaned. Headlight rims were rechromed. Some repairs are still needed before you can start driving: the wiring is faulty in places, some of the lights work and some don't, I believe it's mostly a matter of corroded connections and bad grounds. All door and trunk gaskets (weatherstrip) need replacing. The car had been sitting for 10 years before I acquired it. I'm not sure about any driving issues, I've only driven it back and forth on my street to check the brakes. Tires need replacing for sure. There is an electrical drain somewhere that requires the battery to be disconnected or it will discharge overnight. Radio and clock not working. A hand choke replaces the automatic choke. The Hydra-Matic shifts smoothly. There is no heater, I believe the car came from the factory without one as the heater was optional in '55 and the SoCal climate didn't require one. The engine runs smooth. Body is solid but there is surface rust and some small dents on the left rear side of the top, they don't show up very well in pictures. Glass is very good except for the vent windows. Check out the Petty Girl hood ornament, it's in great shape. The grille is nice too. Note the cool turn indicator flasher (green light) on the column. I want any potential bidders to understand that this is a restoration candidate, not a "daily driver" as yet. Reason for selling: our '57 T-Bird needs the garage space. The paint job may be the original, the colors are Coral Red and Snowberry White which matches the paint code: 71-69. Owner's manual and paint color chart come with the car. This Rambler is offered for sale "As Is" with no guarantees or warranties expressed or implied. E-mail me with any questions! Terms of sale: Successful bidder to pay $300 deposit by PayPal within 48 hours of sale. Balance to be paid by cash, bank-to-bank money transfer, postal money order made out to me or bank cashiers check. The car is offered for sale to US OR CANADA BIDDERS ONLY. Sorry for having to state all this but a few "bad apples" are spoiling the car hobby for the rest of us. The days of innocence are over. Please do your homework before bidding and find out how much shipping will cost - or bring a trailer. I'm located in southern Oregon, just off the I-5 freeway.
