Vehicle Detail

I was seeking a truly original Nova for several years. I have restored 2 Nova/Chevy IIs in the past, a '65 and a '66, and in both cases I regretted not investing in a better car to start with. SO I ran across this one about 6 months ago. I wouldn't usually go for a '73, but having had a Chevelle of the same year, and being so truly impressed with how completely unmolested this Nova was, I bought it. I've done nothing more than have the A/C checked and driven it since. Though my kids love to take rides in it and it gets so much attention even in it's current condition, I have to sell it. Having no free time coupled with a changing family situation leads me to release this car. I'll never get to do anything with it, I believe. ORIGINALITY I have not taken it apart as I would in a restoration therefore, I cannot completely guarantee everything is original on this car. It sure looks it to me. The plate on the firewall tells me that we have a 1973 Chevrolet Nova 2 Door Sedan with a 350 2bbl (2 Barrel Carb), Medium Metallic Blue with Blue Interior. Air Conditioning and the white vinyl roof covering were the only major options selected. The condition of the vehicle leaves me absolutely no doubt that the 63,426 miles on the odometer is correct. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it. The paint, interior, 350 motor, carburetor, TH350 transmission, AM radio, spare tire and jack and trim all appear completely original. I think the exhaust is even original. It's really incredible, if you play with Novas much, how truly untouched this car is. CONDITION There are lots of really great things about it. A car this age should be showing rust in several key places. The vinyl top around the bottom corners of the rear window should be bubbling up; it's not. I see NO signs of rust under the vinyl top. The inner rear wheel wells ought to be showing something; nothing there. The trunk should had more than the surface rust it showed (Not Bubbled); I sanded it and sprayed some black paint on it when I first bought it. Another great thing is the fact that the engine hasn't apparently been touched. The Carb looks original and may have never even been rebuilt. Everything works. It shows slight smoke on start up as to be expected. Someone apparently did add an ignition booster one time. It was unhooked when I got the car; I was gonna unscrew it from the inner fender and throw it away, it's a piece of junk and isn't needed anyway. The motor has a slight oil leak on the passenger side valve cover gasket and MAYBE a slight leak on the front of the oil pan. If you've ever had an old Chevy, you'll know these can both be re-gasketed in about two hours in the drive way. The car starts and runs everytime. I am so confident in it that I load up my little ones to go run errands and get ice cream around town. The surface rust on the body is ONLY surface rust. I was going to sand down and paint these portions in my own garage. I was told that this car was almost always parked in a full enclosure car port which left the rear of the vehicle getting daily sun exposure. Judging from the fading pattern, that sounds like a likely story to me. The body has the usual dents and dings of daily life, of course. The interior is original even to the AM radio. It needs a new headliner, the drivers seat re-covered. The radio doesnt work reliably. I never turned it on so I didn't care. The interesting part is that it appears that no one ever yanked the radio or messed with the speaker or anything. Switches and such are aged but functional, the Dash pad is in great shape. The windshield has a crack. I priced a new one..they are cheap. The A/C system has a freon leak at the top of the aluminum condenser (in front of the radiator). I have a buddy who solders these for me for free...it's that easy...but I would have to pull it and take it to him. By the way, when I put dye in the A/C system and pressured it up, the compressor and clutch worked great and I had frigid air (as I discovered where the leak was on the condenser :). I'm sure I've forgotten something and someone will come along and say I was wrong. I don't sell cars all the time and all I can say is that I would not be misleading on purpose. If you love cars as I do, and restore them as I love to do, then you would recognize that there are always hidden little things, or even big things, that are not seen until you really take it apart. I will require $500 security down within 5 days of end of auction. If you dont come up the cash by 14 days, I'll keep the $500 and relist the car. Thanks For Looking!
