1982 Honda FT500

This bike belongs to my son's friend and has been used as a commuter bike for the last ten years or so. It has had excellent care thoughout its life and as you can see by the pictures its in very fine shape. The bike is all original other than the soft grips and and small removable windshield. The original paint and exhaust is in remarkable shape with only a few small chips;one on the top of the tank and a few on the leading edge of the front fender. It has a nice high gloss shine. Look closely and you can see my reflection. Some of these pictures were taken in low light and make the paint look orange but its bright red. The black finish on the cycle parts is still very shiny. The seat is still soft and has no rips or tears. The original decals are perfect. There are no cracks in the plastic. I believe it has never been kept outside as there is virtually no rust,even on the fasteners. The inside of the tank is clean. Mechanically the bike is very sound. It starts right up from cold with the choke. Everything works on this bike;it runs and rides as it should. There are no strange noises,smoke or problems. It was recently serviced at the dealer which included a full tune up,rebuilt starter and brakes. The tires are recent and full of tread. The owners manual contains past service entries. Its currently registered and inspected with a clear Mass. title. These bikes were only made in this configuration for a couple of years and have become quite collectable. This engine however was used in several models such as the GB500,XL/XR 500 and has proven to be a reliable bullett proof design. These are good handling,lightweight bikes with plenty of power. The air forks,electric start,disc brakes and torquey motor make them easy to ride. This is a good,clean example of this model. I have been riding,working on and collecting bikes for over 40 years;I have seen alot of junk-this is a nice one.
