Vehicle Detail

I now have this car listed for what I paid for it 4 years ago before I put about $3000 into it! I have to believe that there is some Volvo enthusiast out there who can appreciate just how awesome this orange on orange Volvo 142 is. CAR IS ALSO FOR SALE LOCALLY.... AUCTION MAY BE ENDED BEFORE THE RESERVE IS MET IF IT SELLS LOCALLY... THE RESERVE IS LESS THAN $1100 Hello, I have owned this super cool Volvo since 6/2006 and used it as a fun project as well as a commuter. I am the third owner and have a large file of receipts for this car. This car must be considered a running/ driving project car for several reasons: 1) I installed a MEGASQUIRT II electronic fuel injection computer, with a custom wiring harness and sensors & injectors from other types of cars. When you want/need to make changes to the fuel injection or timing, you need a laptop with a USB port. 2) There are some rust spots on the body that will have to be addressed at some point, and a dent/ crease in the right quarter panel (pictured) , I POR 15ed and sprayed orange over several spots, but others need work, pictures will show this. 3) The car is 36 years old. The previous owners said the odometer had stopped at 167,000 several years before, and assumed about 35,000 additional miles, and I put another odometer in and put about 30,00 more miles on it before it quit, so now it has another working odometer showing 30,500 miles on it! It is fun to look at, but the car has AT LEAST 237, 000 MILES on it!!! - Its a VOLVO though!!! - Please read it all if you are interested!!!! Having said all that, the car is a daily driver and the current state of tune is pretty good: the car can be a little finicky to start sometimes, but the settings in MEGATUNE (which is the software that runs on the MEGASQUIRT computer) are quite good, and allow this car to get 22-24 miles to the gallon and be fun and responsive to drive - IPD front and rear swaybars are installed. The J-Type overdrive lets this thing cruise at 70mph at 3100 rpm! To own this car you will have to search for the Megasquirt forums and FAQ and learn how the system works. If something needs repair, you will have to have the time, patients, insight, and mechanical skills to diagnose it and fix it yourself. I will outline the whole car in a list and pictures, it will be long, but will hopefully answer any questions that can be easily answered. Engine: I pulled the head 5/2009 to have .070" ground off (now 10.1:1 compression), as well as new seals, guides, and seats ($382.95 receipt). I measured the bores to be 94mm (reflecting the installation of an IPD 2.2 big bore kit 2/2001 along with IPD 2A7001 Street Cam kit, high performance valve springs, HD oil pump, and more (receipt from previous owner for parts and labor)) and re-installed the head with a Cometic head gasket (receipt. The bottom end doesn't seem to make any noises, and it uses about a quart of oil every 3000 miles or so. I used a B20E intake manifold, K&N filter, Bosch Throttle position sensor (from a Saab 9-5), a GM intake air temp sensor, A Bosch fast idle valve (off of an Audi 5000), Bosch coolant temp sensor from a BMW 5-series (resistance table from Bosch included), Bosch (for Ford) injectors from Ebay - I made a fuel rail for these non-hose style injectos from 2 volvo 240 fuel rails, cut into sections and clamped together with 5/8" high pressure marine use fuel line, Summit racing fuse block, PLX Devices wide band O2 sensor, and a DIY Autotune color coded wiring harness. 3.0 Bar fuel pressure regulator from a SAAB 900. I had a new hole tapped in the head for the coolant temp sensor, so the dash gauge still works. I removed the mechanical advance mechanism from the distributor and used the springs to lock the rotor is place - ALL IGNITION settings are done in Megatune - once base advance is set, timing and dwell are set in Megatune. iThe exhaust from the downpipe back is only 2 years old, and the fuel tank was replaced by the previous owners. The fuel pump is a little whiny, and a used spare is included in this auction. Overall, the install looks good, the oil pan gasket leaks a little. I put a new Bosch alternator and an ADJUSTABLE voltage regulator in it. If this car goes to sea level, additional tuning will probably be required. Transmission: I bought the car with a known bad throwout bearing: The previous owners had paid for a new clutch install after having problems doing it themselves. I installed a new (correct) throwout bearing with a few shims between the clutch fork fulcrum and the bellhousing: The pros had used some domestic TO bearing to solve the release issue rather than shimming as I did. So it probably has 30,000 miles on the clutch. I took the transmission apart to put new gaskets in to stop an oil leak before doing the Megasquirt install as the Overdrive is a HUGE part of this car being useful on modern highways (picture of transmission out below). While I had it out, I put new O-rings on the pistons in the overdrive, as well as on the solenoid valve and changed the filter in it. I had new U-joints put in in 2007, but lost the receipt for that, it was done at Englewood Driveshaft here in Denver. I have only changed the differential fluid once. Suspension/ Brakes/ Tires/Wheels: I had to replace a failed brake master cylinder at some point, and obviously bled the brakes at that time, but haven't done much more than that. The pads and rotors are OK, and have life left in them, but are not great - 4 wheel disc brakes. The IPD front and rear swaybars are great, but the tires on the 15" MSW wheels (AWSOME! - one has a small flat spot that I can't feel when driving) suck: they are winter tires, 2 with lots of tread, 2 with mid-low tread. The other wheels included (and pictured below) are the stock steel wheels with studded Gislaved Nordfrost tires with lots of tread; they are Awesome in the snow and come with the original polished aluminum wheel covers. There is no power steering on this car. There are receipts for front and rear suspension bushings, but there is enough play in the front end for me to say that they are definetely not new anymore, and some might need replacement. Body: Original paint on roof, doors, and front clip, repainted on quarters and trunk: very close, but you can tell - the original paint is actually in better shape than the repainted section. The paint buffs out nice, but it shows its age. There is a dent in the right rear quarter that is shown below, I sanded, POR15ed, primed and sprayed it with Chevy engine orange, just to get the rust stopped and the metal covered. There is some rust in the rockers (pictured), the front right fender (pictured), around the windshield (pictured), on the lip of the hood (pictured). Going down the road, or from a few feet away, it looks good, and gets attention. I have not seen another orange on orange VOLVO anywhere, I'm sure they are out there, but I haven't seen it. I installed front HELLA fog lights, and a RARE HELLA rear fog light mounted under the rear bumper. Interior: The dash has cracks, the seats are a little faded, but overall it is straight inside. I had the carpet cleaned when it was out for the Megasquirt install, and it looks good. I put an used Alpine CD deck in with an IPod cable to the AUX input, the face has tilt which is actually really useful in this car. The mirror back is disintegrating, and I haven't looked for a replacement, but don't think it would be to hard to do. I installed Volt and Oil Pressure gauges from a VW rabbit into the center console, and moved the switches to one side: they are on the dash dimmer, and work - Cool! There is an Alpine V12 amp on a sealed box with a Fosgate 10" woofer in the trunk: it sounds OK, is not great and does not "hit."(pictures) The heater works great, but the rear window de-frost is mostly broken: only 3-4 lines still work, but I am including a later model rear window that should be better for de-frost, AND has a third brake light for you to hook up! The MEGASQUIRT box is pictured below under the passenger seat, it didn't quite fit as planned and is mounted at an angle to allow the interface cord to be attached. YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE THE LAPTOP PLUGGED IN TO DRIVE THE CAR, only to tune, view or log what is going on with it. EXTRAS /QUIRKS: Sometimes, when the car has only been running for a minute or two, it will not turn off without pulling up on the parking brake lever: It only happens when the engine has run for a very short time and I cannot find anything in the wiring that would allow the Main relay to be powered through the parking brake light - I designed it to be powered through the lead from the ignition switch to the coil ( powered while in "ON" and "RUN" - AND while cranking!) I will include a car cover and a thumb drive with a copy of megatune (free anyway) and a backup of the current Megasquirt file, spark, VE, and AFR tables. It is a MSII pcb 3.0 megasquirt with 2.88 firmware - It is built with a second pressure sensor for continuous outside pressure compensation - and the PWM idle kit was installed, but my plans changed and I use the fast idle ON/OFF mode. I will include the file of records that goes back to 2 pieces of yellow paper that the original owner used to keep track of maintenance spending- see picture below! I just finished taking pictures for this listing an hope you see what a cool and unique classic car this is!!! Thanks SUMMARY/ TERMS: So this is a really cool old car that has been a lot of fun to have. It will take a driven Volvo enthusiast to own and love this car. I will answer questions as best I can, all general questions about Megasquirt should be answered through online research as ANY new owner will have to figure all this stuff out eventually. Please email with questions or for pictures of something specific. A PAYPAL DEPOSIT OF $300 WILL BE REQUIRED IMMEDIATELY after the auction ends, CASH AT PICKUP IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE PAYMENT, PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CASH IN HAND - LOCAL PICKUP ONLY - NO SHIPPING, SOLD AS-IS, WHERE IS. WRITE WITH YOUR PHONE NUMBER IF YOU WANT TO DISCUSS THE CAR. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
