Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my 1969 GTO. This a a true 242 GTO and not a LeMans or Tempest clone. This car is an awesome turn key driver and not a show car. Other than the engine and paint, it is believed to be all original and complete. The motor is a freshly rebuilt (about 8,000 miles ago) 1977 400 cubic inch passenger car engine that was a standard remanufactured long block that was upgraded with and Edelbroch Performer intake and matching cam, an HEI distributor, and true dual exhaust from the manifolds back. It has a Rochester carb that works and performs fine as it makes strong torque in the 2,500-5,500rpm range while allowing for nearly 15 miles per gallon on the highway, so you get the best of both worlds. The engine compartment is clean and not cluttered up with a wire spider web mess that so many cars seam to have. The original 400 Turbo Hydromatic transmission was also recently overhauled less than 4,000 miles ago and reinstalled with a new torque converter. It shifts very hard and strong. It starts, runs, drives, goes strait, corners, stops, and does strong burnouts perfectly. It has an ammature restoration/repaint that was done roughly 15-20 years ago that has held up very well rust wise, though the paint is starting to show it's age as it has some fading and checking on the trunk lid and part of the roof from sitting out in the sun as I drove it to work most of last summer. It has the minor scratches, small bubbles and door dings you'd expect from an older restoration, but still looks pretty good from about 10 or 20 feet away. The bubbling is clearly shown in the photo's and is limited to the the very lower part of the front fenders behind the wheels, and at the bottom of the rear deck lid above the tail lights. I purchased the car three years ago from a friend who's wife had the car for about ten years, so I've know it's condition for better than a decade now. These bubbles have not gotten any bigger or worst in that time. There are a couple small rust holes in the trunk about the size of a quarter that are also shown in the pictures. The doors are all good and door hinges are very tight and storng as the doors close and hang solid and firmly. The frame and underside of the car are still very solid and useable but it should have a floor pan welded in in the front passenger foot area, and there are a couple small holes in the underside that could also use about a two or three inch patch welded in when you go to restore it. It comes with a brand new carpet that is still in the box that needs to be installed yet. The seats are very good but there is a cut about about and inch and a half long in the one seat. The dash is basically perfect, the headliner is good but has some discoloration at the top of the sailpanel area by the back window. The door panels, console, and glass are all good too, but the arm rest and console door lid have the usual wear and cracks in the vinyl. The trim is all way above average but there is some pitting on the potmetal part of the taillight assemblies like every other car of it's vintage. The original dash tach works, and the original A.M. radio is there too and believe to work, but has been disconnected the whole time I've had the car because there is a newer aftermarket A.M./F.M./Cassette stereo mounted under the dash with a trunk mounted remote controled JVC ten disc changer. The original rubber nose cone is in very good and reuseable condition, with only having some very minor cracks in the paint only, but no cracks, shrinkage, or warpage in the nose cone itself. The rear bumper has a very small ding in it but is useable. There was a lower rear quarter panel patch welded in and mudded over when it was last done about twenty years ago, and it was done properly as it has never rusted, cracked, or let loose in that time. It has 14" ralley wheels but is missing one of the bueaty rings. Three out of the four tires are in good shape, but the right rear tire is close to bald from doing burnouts. Again, this car is to be considered a driver, and not a finished show car. While it's a turn key car that you can drive, use, and play with as is, it's one you can tinker with and tweek as your budget and time dictates. It's also an excellent candidate for a complete restoration as it is very solid, and complete. As I mentioned above, it's an great 10 or 20 footer in the looks department, and while it's far from perfect, it's also far better than the vast majority of similar cars selling for a great deal more. I have a clear Wisconsin Title, and also included with the car is the complete PHS Document package from the Pontiac Historical Society, that outlines everything the car came with when it left the factory 41 years ago. If you are looking for a perfect car that is done, this is not the car for you, so please DO NOT BID! I have tried to honestly and accurately describe the car to the very best of my ability, and am very concerned with maintaining my perfect Ebay rating, so if there is anything in perticular that I have not listed that you'd like to know, you can call me at 715 426-1966. The car is being offered for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early should it sell locally. I live one half hour east of St. Paul, MN in River Falls, WI. The zip code for shipping quotes is 54022. I also reserve the right to reject bids from bidders with low or no ebay ratings, and or from bidders outside of the continential US, unless special arrangents are met which you can call me about at 715 426-1966. Thank you, and good luck with your search. ***I will be adding more pictures in the next couple of days too, as it is raining out here in Wisconsin today, so I can not get good pictures of the underside. Payment and shipping: I require a $500.00 deposit in my PayPal account with in 12 hours of the auctions end, and the balance due received by me via cash, wire transfer, or certified check within 7 days of the auctions end. The car does not leave my possession until all funds are verifiey in my account. Buyer is responsible for all shipping charges. On Jun-13-10 at 11:02:42 PDT, seller added the following information: ***NEW UPDATED REVISION TO ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION*** I have been hoping to get the car out and take some more pictures to post in the ad but it has been raining and or cloudy here in Wisconsin everyday since I listed this ad last Wednesday. Sorry or the delay in being able to get that done. As I mentioned in the original description, I am very concerned with maintaining my 100% positive Ebay feedback rating, and after further review of my ad, I realized a few things that I want to declare and make everyone is aware of prior to bidding enough to reach my "Reserve Price, or exercising the "Buy It NOW" feature. First of all, the odometer reads 93,691 miles. I have no idea if that is the actual amount of miles on the car or if it really has 193,691 miles on it as it is a 41 year old car, and although I have known the history on the car for more than a decade, I can not in anyway, shape or form certify the milage or history of the car prior to the mid '90's. Again, I am NOT certifying that this car has only 93,691 actual miles! One of the things I tend to look at when buying an old car is the ware on the brake pedal to help me determine if it is likely that the odometer is reasonably close to matching the the normal ware for the usage of the brake pedal. The brake pedal looks to be original and reasonably close to the expected amount of wear associated with a car having around 93,000 miles of use, but again, I can not, and am not certifying that the odometer reading is accurate. Secondly, it states that this car is equipped with "Air Conditioning". This is a factory air conditioning car that came from the factory with A/C. While the original A/C unit, dash climate controls and the venting are there and intact, the original A/C compressor and it's original mounting bracket are missing, but I do have the working A/C compressor and it's mounting brackets off of the motor that is in the car now. The A/C worked and cooled well in the car we took the motor out of in April of 2009. It will beed to be installed with a new belt and then charged, but will work. Thirdly, I realized that I neglected to mention that the car is missing the weather strips on both rear windows that devide and seal the front and rear side windows. They were old and cracked and made rolling down the rear windows difficult as they would catch and hang up when doing so, so I simply removed and discarded them a few years ago. Replacement reproductions are readily available on the aftermarket, and are inexpensive through a varity of aftermarket companies. One more thing I'd like to declare before anyone reaches a bid above my "Reserve Price", or exercises the "Buy It Now" feature, is that while this car is a very solid and reliable driver that would make an excellent restoration candidate, it is far from perfect. Thats why it is not priced anywhere near perfect, so if you're expecting to buy a $30,000-$40,000 car for only $8,495, DO NOT BID! Again, if you have any specific questions or concerns, you can always call me at 715 426-1966. Thank you, and good luck with your search. On Jun-13-10 at 11:07:43 PDT, seller added the following information: The cars original colors were Gold on Gold, meaning that the exterior was gold and it had a gold colored interior. While Pontitac labeled it Gold on Gold, a better description would have been Tan on Tan, as the original paint was really more of a tan color, and the original interior is really more of a tan or a brownish color that a gold color.
