Vehicle Detail
Everywhere it goes, this gorgeous '57 Thunderbird draws attention. It starts, runs and drives terrific. The thick folder of receipts that comes with this lovely car shows that it has been driven a total of 103,333 miles since new. Professionally restored several years ago by Ed Spannolo at Colorite Refinishing in Bethany, CT, it has been lovingly preserved ever since. The paint is a high quality color-sanded job in the original colonial white that still shows well. As can be seen in the pictures, the chrome and interior are also very nice. There are no cracks in the dash and the carpet shows no wear. The chrome Kelsey Hayes wire wheels and American Classic wide whitewall radials are new with only a few miles on them. I've never found any rust or signs of body damage on the car. Mechanically, the car is in good shape. The brakes work properly and all the lights work, including the turn signals. The engine doesn't smoke or hesitate. It starts right up, cold or hot, and runs great, smooth and powerful (it will screech the tires if you step on it.) The automatic transmission shifts smoothly with no jerking, slipping or funny noises. All the instruments work on this Thunderbird including the tachometer and the original Town and Country tube-type radio. Even the clock ticks away, keeping the time. The original tools are in their correct place in the trunk and the original owners manual is in the glove box. It also has the original set of keys. Options on the car include the Town and Country radio, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, fender skirts and two seldom seen options on the '57: the trunk lid antenna and the non-porthole hard top. Yes, a non-porthole hardtop could be specified on the option list in 1957, but they don't show up often. Manufactured in November 1957, this is among the last classic Thunderbirds produced. The data plate reads: D7FH394728 40 EE6XH 08 Y 31 which decodes as: D = 245 horsepower 4-barrel 312 cu. inch engine 7 = 1957; F = Dearborn; H = Tbird; 394728 build number, a late car 40 = series, Thunderbird; E = Colonial white body; E = Colonial white hardtop ( now painted red) XH = Trim, red interior, white convertible top ( now black); 08 Y means 8 November; I'm not sure about the 31. I'm 67 years old and have owned a lot of different collector cars, including Ferrari, Cadillac, Jaguar, Imperial and Lincoln. This Thunderbird starts better, drives better and is more reliable than all of them. Truly an enjoyable car to drive, as well as one that will get a lot of attention at car shows. Email me through eBay for any questions or call my cell: 540-289-9568. I tried to get good clear pictures, but there's no substitute for inspecting the car yourself. Call to make arrangements. If you need help arranging transport, I will assist you on my end. Transportation cost is of course up to the buyer. The buyer also gets first refusal on a nice original set of '57 Thunderbird wheels and correct wheel covers mounted on hardly used Coker Classic white whitewall bias ply tires in the original 7.50-14 size. My last picture, taken soon after I bought the car, shows it with these tires and wheels as well as the hardtop so you can see the condition of both. Please Note: The car you being sold in this auction comes with the chrome wire wheels and radials, not the regular wheels, tires and wheel covers. The original wheels and wheel covers do not come with the car. I will be selling them separately and show them on the car only as an illustration. The hard top, however, is included with the sale of the car. Please don't ask what the reserve price is. It's modest, especially compared to the price cars not as nice as this one bring at the big collector car auctions such as Barrett-Jackson, RM and Gooding. You can buy this 1957 Thunderbird at a wholesale price. TERMS AND CONDITIONS A $1000 non-refundable deposit within 48 hours after the auction closes and full payment within four days from the end of the auction. The deposit may be paid through Pay Pal (contact me for details), but the balance must be a verifiable bank cashier's check, bank wire or cash. The car may not be removed from the premises until payment is received in full. The title will not be transferred until full payment is received. This vehicle is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed, written or implied. If any of these terms are not met, I reserve the right to re-list the vehicle, sell it to the next high bidder, or sell it otherwise. If you intend to finance, you should arrange that prior to bidding. Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping of this vehicle. The title may not be transferred and the vehicle may not leave my garage until the full payment has been received. If you have any questions, please ask before you bid. I reserve the right to cancel bids for excessive negative feedback. I also reserve the right to end this auction early and sell this vehicle at any time if someone wants to arrange a Buy it Now and can complete the transaction within 24 hours. Please do not bid on this auction unless you are serious about owning this vehicle. All non-paying high bidders will be reported to eBay, and negative feedback posted. (I don't like saying that, but I've had it happen. Unlike the buyer who is protected up to $50,000, the seller still has to pay the auction fee even if no sale occurs.) Thanks for taking a look at my Thunderbird. If you like what you see, bid early and often.
