Vehicle Detail

Ground up restoration in 1998, most moving parts and wiring harness replaced, minor body restoration & repaint done very well by pro shop. 1960 was the last year for Metropolitans, though some are dated later: year of car at that time was the year sold. 66,292 miles on odometer. Less than 5,777 miles on engine rebuilt by Dick Crutcher (the Metropolitan Engine Rebuilder). Good Points: The latches and such at the rear of the doors, and the body, show that this is a factory made convertible, not a conversion. NO BONDO. True whitewalls (only one manufacturer in the U.S.) New Top, April 2006. New Battery May 2006. Added dual oil pressure/coolant temperature gauge (added by me, dual SMITHS gauge, dealer option). Added external period rear view mirror, dealer option. Completely STOCK stock, with two exceptions. Modern oil filter adapter and retractable radio antenna. Upgraded differential, next paragraph. Geared higher, new pumpkin, so can cruise easily at 65. This differential change creates a bit of howl at high rpm in second gear, but two fellow Metropolitan owners with this modification told me that they have the same issue. From 4.22:1 to 3.92:1. Old pumpkin still in my garage, will come with car. AM radio still works. Strong nationwide Metropolitan club - MOCNA - (weak in Atlanta). Magazine, parts replacement guide. New, active internet forum. ALL parts easily available locally or by mail order. TWO catalogs advertise "ALL parts of the car." Only half a dozen parts are a bit pricey, most are cheap/reasonable. All MY receipts kept, well over $15,000 spent by me. Will come with the car, of course. I have replaced the spare tire’s vinyl "continental" cover with one that has red piping, to match the rest of the upholstery. Tight steering, strong engine, good shifting, great body! Downers: There are no ID plates in the engine compartment Georgia WILL NOT issue a title for a car older than the early 1970's. I have owned this car since 1998, registered on a "bill of sale", which is how Georgia handles this. The prior owner showed me his registration slips, showing that he had owned this car for 10 years. The inside door panels, fiber board and vinyl, are not installed. I have new ones from Shannon Crutcher, the Metropolitan Upholstery person. These will be sent with the car. Few drips of oil from front crankshaft seal after shutting the engine off. (no need to add oil) British engine! Front left Kingpin is a bit loose, should be rebuilt eventually (less than $100 in parts, a full weekend in work), cannot feel it myself while driving. A few small paint issues, mostly rust bubbles under the paint. (I have paint type/codes) One small chip in the grill surround chrome, rather inexpensive and easy to replace if you want to. I wired the starter switch wrong. Lights: Headlights and parking, then headlights and parking. No way to do JUST parking lights without changing that ONE wire. . . Four different keys required, none of which fit the doors. . . New lock cylinders are available form the mail order companies. The car is not QUITE waterproof. Drive it in the rain and. . . you get a bit wet. $300 deposit via PayPal must be received within 72 hours of auction close. The balance due within seven days of auction close, and before I release the car into your custody. U.S. cashiers checks and money orders accepted for the balance, but must have TWO safety features. This can be micro print on the signature line, watermark, hologram, etc. Otherwise I will hold the check/MO for 10 business days to be sure that it clears, before I release the car. You may send someone to the car to perform an inspection, at your expense. I did not renew the registration this year, so I can’t drive it to a shop. The community I live in has extensive private roads, so you can do a test drive. Vehicle may be picked up to save shipping charges. Buyer assumes all responsibility for the vehicle once it leaves my driveway. Waleska, Georgia, 30183.
