Vehicle Detail

1980 Toyota Pickup This is not a show truck; this truck has seen every rain shower in Texas since 1980. It's also seen hail, mud and even a relatively heavy snow storm (early 80's). It's pulled an El Camino out of muddy septic field and it's pulled an F350 quad cab dually up a highway entrance ramp (albeit, at 5 mph in first gear). This truck has not been babied by any means, but it has been loved and VERY well maintained (maintenance records included). HISTORY My father purchased this truck new on March 4th, 1980 from Austin Toyota in Austin, TX (I have the original had written invoice for $6,500). He had ordered a blue SR-5, but saw this yellow one being off-loaded from a truck and bought it before it was ever put out on the lot. The truck was, until his death in 1998, his work truck for art shows around the state (Texas Renaissance Festival, Scarborough Fair, etc.). MECHANICAL / RUNNING GEAR The truck was maintained by Austin Toyota until 1991 when my dad switched to Dave's Perfection Automotive. The truck has been serviced there ever since (with some maintenance tasks being performed by myself - I am degreed in Automotive Restoration). The engine and transmission are original, and the head has never been off the motor. The engine is on it's 3rd timing chain - two previous were replaced at 100k and 200k respectively (she'll be due for another at 300k). Recently, it's had a new exhaust manifold gasket set, carburetor rebuild, 4 wheel brake job, new clutch master cylinder, new ball joints and front A-arm bushings, oil pan gasket and new tires. The engine is the famed 20R with the double row timing chain (the larger replacement 22R that came in 1981 had only a single row). This truck also has the optional 5 Speed transmission and Air Conditioning (works well - vent temperature down to 59 degrees sitting still in the driveway). EXTERIOR The paint on this truck is completely original. In fact, I was showing a clients 64 Mercedes 300SE Cabriolet to an individual who brought along a paint depth indicator, and upon finding the paint depth to be wildly unequal on the Benz, I joked that we should check my truck. We did and the paint thickness came out between 2.5-3 microns across the entire truck! The pictures show that the paint is far from perfect (especially in the tailgate and bed sections, but there are no rust through spots anywhere (only minor surface rust in parts of the bed and around the very top of the cab (see pictures for reference). The bed sides do have minor dings and dimples from hauling gravel, etc. The front painted valence below the grill has many rock chips that do not show well in the photos, but I'm happy to do close-ups if you'd like The windshield was replaced this year by Binswanger glass after the original became a little to pitted and cracked. INTERIOR Let's be honest, the dashboard is horrible; the Texas sun has definitely done a number on it and it's not pretty. Other than that, the interior is quite nice. The seat has been recovered and the driver's seat belt was replaced at some point in the early 90's with one from a blue interiored Toyota. This seat belt is beginning to show wear, but has always passed the state inspection. Everything else is in good shape - gauges all work and are accurate; interior lights function; radio in the dash is no longer functional, but a CD player resides in the glove compartment. Speakers are Polk but have Craig covers on them (no one would steal Craig speakers). Behind the seat is the original jack, rods to lower spare, and original bag and toolkit. The floormat is in decent shape for it's age - there is a large hole in the driver's side where my father's foot would rest. Both the driver and passenger side windows fall off track if you do not help them on the way down. This is a simple fix, but not one I've gotten around to performing (window simply needs new rubber inserts and glue to adhere to the window regulator. I've tried to cover all the high points, but feel free to shoot me a message if you have any questions or picture requests. VIDEOS AT THE BOTTOM. On May-25-10 at 19:43:46 PDT, seller added the following information: This is a NO RESERVE auction. Yes, someone will go home with this truck. After looking into the history report question, I realized the answer is simple... this is an 80 model and history reports are available for vehicles 81 and newer made for the North American market. Why eBay doesn't remove the 'free history report' link appearing next to the VIN when the year is less than 1981, I'm not sure...On May-29-10 at 07:51:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Awesome original TV Ads:
