Vehicle Detail
Up for sale here is a 1972 Mercedes 300 SEL 4.5 If you are looking for an extremely rare W109 that is full of new parts then look no further! I use the term "rare" because it has an original factory power sunroof. It also has custom seats and some newly restored woodwork (including the matched grain windshield trim, almost irreplacable...). It is missing the woodwork for the dash, I replace it with a leather wrapped piece of wood. It has aftermarket BBS 17inch rims with low profile tires. About 40% remaining on tires. The engine runs and the transmission shifts smoothly. The entire drivetrain is in usable condition with the exception of the air suspension which does not lift properly on the left hand side of the car. There is very little rust on the body, you have to be underneath it to see any at all! (Not too shabby for a northern vehicle). I have over $5000 worth of reciepts that will reflect my efforts to restore this wonderful machine, but unfortunately, the economy has destroyed my portfolio and now my beloved Merc has to go... The winner of this car is responsible for picking up and transporting this vehicle, as it is not driveable in it's current state. That is why I have set the reserve so low. The car is located in Vesper, Wisconsin. If you are looking for a classic to restore or just a parts car then you have hit the jackpot. If you searched this specific of a vehicle then you already know how maddening it can be to find quality used parts for these old Mercs. Whom ever wins this auction is going to get one heck of a deal. Please feel free to ask about specific parts or express any other concerns. Happy bidding and good luck! Here is the description for the parts car... What we have here is a 1970 Mercedes 280 SEL 4.5. This vehicle was originally purchased for use as a parts car, it is currently not running, though it would start right up with a little engine work. The truth is, this car is VERY restorable. The brakes and interior are in excellent condition. I was never able to test the transmission, but I was told that there was nothing wrong with it. Neither the engine or the transmission leak oil/tranny fluid. The body is in very fair condition. The only major rust is on both front fenders and a little underneath (easily repairable if you are so inclined.) As far as the interior goes, it has the original radio, and the woodwork is in very fair condition compared to other similar vehicles that I have owned. I believe the leather seats are easily resorable. The glass is in perfect condition aside from the rear window which is missing. The chrome inside and out is in good to excellent condition, the bumpers are in fantastic shape. I would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the condition of certain parts in case there is something specific you need. The winner of this auction is responsible for the pick up and transport of this vehicle, as it does not currently run. The vehicle is located in Vesper, Wisconsin. Because of this, I have set the reserve price quite low. Thanks for bidding! And for those of you who know how rare parts are for these cars will have nothing to worry about finding anymore to finish their restoration. Good luck!
