Vehicle Detail
1966 Ranchero "A" Code 4spd, 289 4bbl. I believe the 132,000 miles is accurate but I'm not certain. This car is an all original numbers matching car extremely rare and hard to find. It is 100% complete. I purchased it 1 year ago with the intent to make it a driver and eventually restore it completely. Since then I have acquired a number of project cars and won't get to this one for some time. This car would make a great first car for a kid or an awesome hotrod project for someone that doesn't want to pay Highpo Mustang prices. In 1966 Ford did not make a "GT" Ranchero like they did with the Mustang. So, Rancheros ordered with all the options like this one were dubbed, "Custom Ranchero". (Body Code 66B). Other then the extremely rare "K"code 289, most high performance, i.e fastback and GT Mustangs were fitted with the "A" code 289. Not many Rancheros got this package. I wish I could give specific history on the vehicle but I don't have any. I found it parked under a carport not running. I tried to buy it for 3 or 4 years then finally was able to acquire it. This is a very cool little car. Here are some specifics: Vin # 6K29A220255 Body Tag: 66B Ranchero Custom Z (Color) Medium Sage Gold Mettalic 46 Trim Code ? 16D Date (April 16) 71 District Code (Los Angeles) 4 rear axle ratio 3:25 5 Trans: 4spd manual shift Body The body of the car on a scale of 1 to 10 is a 9. There is zero rust in the quarter panels, doors, window pillars etc. The body is solid. The driver's side floor pan has some rust (shown in pic). I cut the front floor pan out of a 69 Fairlane to replace the small portion you see here that is rusted out. The bed is a bit banged up from someone working out of the truck in the past but nothing a decent body man couldn't repair. The compartments behind te seat which typically rusts out on Rancheros needs a little work also. On the passenger side of the compartment there is a small rust hole, maybe 50 cent piece size. It looks like the car has been painted once but very poorly. The tailgate is rusted out badly but I have an extra which is included. The front bumper is straight but needs rechroming. The rear bumper is useable but needs rechroming also. Interior The interior of the car needs to be reupholstered. The pics speak for themselves. It's useable but needs to be done. The dash is cracked at the radio speaker. The guages are nice and I have two sets of extra guages. Door panels are OK, seat needs upholstered. Engine The original 289 is still in the car. When I got it home I cleaned it up, took the gas tank out of it and had it dipped, flushed and the inside sealed (cost $250.00). I replaced the spark plugs, had the radiator flushed, purged the fuel line, installed a new battery then attempted to fire the car up. It wouldn't start. The carb wouldn't squirt out any gas. It's the original carburetor. I installed an Edlebrock 600 4bbl and it started right up after a few cranks. It ran like crap and the lifters made a terrible racquet. One set of lifters were really loud and after the engine warmed up and I cranked them down tight the car quieted down and ran just as smooth as silk. It did seem like I had to crank those lifters alot though to get them to quiet down. A few days later I fired the car up, it ran great. About two months later I went to fire the car and the battery was dead. I charged the battery and tried to fire the car and haven't got it to start yet. I am not sure what is wrong with it but that's were I'm at. The car isn't running at this time. You can not drive it! I am going to tinker with it some more while this add is running but no guarantees. The car hasn't run for 6 or 7 years that I know of until I got ahold of it. Who knows what all that sitting has done. Who knows why it was parked in the first place. Drive Train The Ranchero has the original 4spd transmission in the car and seems to shift just fine. The driveline isn't connect however. It is in the back of the car. The guy I got the car from robbed the 3:25 gears out of the 8" rear-end of the car. In the sale I am including a 9" inch rear-end that I removed from a 1967 GT 390 Ranchero with 3:25 gears. It is in the back of the Ranchero and I have included pics of it. I have had it media blasted, I painted it to keeo it fro rusting, and I have new brake drums for it. It is a direct bolt on for the 66. Same spring perch spacing and the same overall width. Excellent upgrade. You still get the original 8" rear-end also. It is still under the car. I have some 8" rear-end gears also, if you prefer to keep the car original. They are 2:97's though. Very cruiser-ish ratios. The Car is a drum brake, non-power steering car. However, the front end of these cars are so light power steering really isn't a big deal. Disc brakes weren't offered on this car until 67. But I have both that I am including in the auction. I have a set of front disc brakes that I removed from a 1967 Fairlane from the spindles out. I was going to install these on the Ranchero. They are the dual piston caliper type. They are direct bolt-on. They are also included with the car, no extra cost! 2nd Ranchero included in the auction Included in this auction is a second Ranchero (pics included). This is a very restorable car but one of the doors is in bad shape, so is the floor pans. This was going to be my parts car for the "A" code. You will need the tailgate from this car, the power steering (if so desired) and a couple pieces of trim. This car is a 6 cylinder car but it has the 5 lug V-8 spindles and 8" 5 lug rear-end. It also has a 302 in it that goes with it. The 302 doesn't have a carb or intake. This car also has a very nice c-4 transmission also. This second car is 99% complete. Glass The glass on both cars is very nice. The "A" code windshield on the lower right hand corner has a very small chip from a rock. It's barely noticeable and could surely be repaired. However, if it bothers you, the parts car has a perfect one to replace it with. Extra Parts for additional $ Not included in the auction but available for additional fee is the following. My plan was, if I couldn't get the original 289 running well enough, I have an 1988 5.0 roller motor with 80k miles out of a mustang I was going to drop into the Ranchero while I rebuilt the 289. I was also going to put the original 4spd in storage and install a T-5 manual 5spd transmission that I purchased. It came out of a 1993 Mustang and has only 30k miles on it. It is pristine. the 93 is the best stock 5spd you can get. It can handle 300ft pounds of torque. I will sell both of these items to the wining bidder for what I have into them if interested. Summary OK, so included in this auction is two 1966 Rancheros both have clear titles and both are on CA non-op status. There are no back-fees! There are a ton of extra parts included, some I haven't mentioned because I have simply forgot about them. The only extras not included are the roller motor and T-5 transmission. But they can be had for a reasonable price. Some negotiating could probably work... If you are new to EBAY and you don't have any buyer or seller history, DON'T BID on my car please. I wan't to talk to you first. You can call me, or email me. I will cancel your bid if you don't comply with this one very small request. Sorry to those of you that are honest people, this is just business. If you have questions about the car or are curious about arrangements etc... please contact me. There is no warranty on the car, either expresses or implied. You are buying this car as is. Thank You and happy bidding, Sal (209) 736-0006 Salvatore0007@gmail.com On May-09-10 at 20:12:45 PDT, seller added the following information: The 'A' code car has newer tires on it, and the 2nd ranchero's tires hold air just fine. Both cars move easily and will roll right up onto a trailer nicely.
