Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is an original 1968 Firebird 350 Convertible with a Hurst 4speed. This is a very rare car and a true "barn find". I am listing this car for the elderly woman who owns it and will describe it to the best of my ability. Car is all original and numbers matching except for the color. The woman who owns the car now has had it since 1975. It was her husband's car. Originally it was teal with a teal interior and teal convertible top. In 1977 her husband changed the color to red with a black interior and black top. When he left, the lady took ownership of the car and has driven it approximately 3 times to my knowledge. The car was painted again in 1998. Exterior - Body is arrow straight with no rust. Never any body work as far as i know. Paint is very nice, especially for its age. We pulled the car out of the garage & just took the pictures the way it was without buffing or even waxing the car, so the pictures really tell the story. There is a small ding on the rear passenger fender that occurred when the car was in storage (shown in the pictures). There is also a small thumbnail sized nick on the driver's rear fender. Other than that I cannot find any issues with the body. Interior - Showing its age a little. I think the carpet may need some attention. The "panic" handles on the doors have been taken off. Steering wheel is not original and horn has been replaced with a button under the dash and an "Auugah" horn. Seats are nice though. Convertible top is also showing some age, especially where it meets up with the driver's window. Top does not leak as far as i know. The rear window is plastic and is discolored. Overall still presentable, especially if it was cleaned up. Keep in mind this car has spent a lot of time in a garage under tarps. Drivetrain - Engine runs strong! It has the original 350 Pontiac V8. I got into the car and it started right up. Runs smooth, sounds great. Transmission shifts through all gears, may need some lubrication or tightening, but I drove it down the street with no problems. Dual exhaust sounds very cool. Car is very fun to drive and has a lot of power. Don't know if the original 2bbl carb was replaced with a 4bbl or not. Transmission feels like a close ratio, so I might think twice about driving this car across the country. Mileage is original at 74415. Also brakes feel like manual brakes, so be ready for that. Tires are also in good condition with lots of tread. In my younger days I would feel confident in driving this car anywhere, but I'm older now. If you have the means it would be a good idea to transport this somehow. After all it is a 42 year old car. All in all this is an extremely original, extremely rare and desirable car that doesn't need a lot of work to turn into a show car. Right now it's a cruiser. Restore it to show quality or just have fun with it as is. Comes with what I believe to be the original Pontiac wheel covers. Car is sold as is. NO RESERVE auction so please, please don't bid on this car unless you are willing to take it home. Buyer to deposit $1000 within 24 hours of auction's end. The rest is due upon pick-up. Buyer responsible for pick-up. I will try to answer any questions as honestly as possible. Good luck! Revision- A lot of people have been asking how the car would be on long trips. Mechanically the car is excellent. I actually drove an old Pontiac from California to New York without any problems whatsoever, and this Firebird seems to be in far better shape than the one I drove. The only reason I would think twice about it is because of the gearing of the car, which even that has come into question because the lady says that she's had a guy take her out in the car and it flies down the thruway. I am now uncertain whether the trans is a Muncie M20 or M21 (the shifter boot has the Hurst logo on it). Also, there is no rust underneath the car. I tried to get a picture of it before, but the car is stored in a carpeted garage so the moisture doesn't come in. Those flakes seen in the trunk in the picture are actually flakes of pepper the lady put in to keep the mice away. I hope this answers some questions.
