Vehicle Detail

This is a 1979 Mercedes 300CD (for some weird reason, on the back of the car it says 300D but, as you can tell from the photos, it is obviously a coupe). It's dark green exterior and tan interior. I bought the car about 8 months ago and put about $2500 into it. The bottom line with the car is that the exterior and interior are in decent shape but not perfect by any means. There is a small tear in the driver's seat (visible in a photo) but otherwise there are no serious issues with the car's appearance. Basically, it looks like a car that is 30 years old and has been used not sitting in a garage somewhere. It catches people's eyes and gets a ton of compliments, and could be fixed up so it is perfect. As the guy who sold it to me said - it looks awesome from 15 feet away! The biggest thing is, I put money mostly into making sure the car runs great. This will tell you what you need to know about the car mechanically:I drove this car on 7 trips that were 14 - 16 hrs roundtrip each (averaging about 65 - 70mph on the highway for 7 hours!) and the car got great fuel mileage (it is a diesel and gets 32 - 33MPG!!!) and was hassle-free. This car has about 253,000 miles on it but just check around, these cars can easily run great for 500,000+ miles if you take care of them. One thing I did not know when I bought the car is that anyone who owns a mercedes, no matter whether you bought it new or used or what year it is, gets free Mercedes roadside service. You get a flat, or run out of fuel and they will come for free, wherever you are, and change your flat or give you like 2 or 3 gallons of fuel free. Two things that do not work: Heater/AC (it blows but lukewarm) and rear defrost. Fixing the rear defrost shouldn't be more than $200 -$300 for a "new" used rear windshield. The heater/AC I have no idea about what's wrong. I just hooked up an external heater to the battery that kept me warm during the winter. If anyone is wondering why I am getting rid of the car, quite simply, it's not big enough for me and my family. And I just can't afford insurance on 2 cars anymore, so we're keeping the SUV. This is a fun, very capable collector's item. It gives great gas mileage and runs really well. Cosmetically, it could be a beautiful car if it got a little TLC and someone put some money into it. but I had a great time with it and...the great time is over. There is no warranty of any kind. This car is a 1979 car and while I had a great time and loved the car, I am not guaranteeing anything about the car. Ask around and people will tell you - go to any of the Mercedes chat rooms - these coupes ROCK! But if you have a growing family and need only one car, this is not the ride for you. You are responsible for arranging for shipping. I will be available with the car for it to be picked up by your shipper after it is PIF (you have to give me a day or two notice and except for something completely unforseeable that comes up, I will be ready with the car) but otherwise I am not going to be involved in arranging for shipping. You can, once you arrange for shipping, give your shipper my telephone number to discuss the arrangements. I will say this - I bought the car from a guy in Florida and it was easy to find a shipper to bring it up and not terribly expensive. They did a great job and were easy to work with. Email me with any questions. I'm happy to answer them. There is a $500 deposit due within 48 hours of winning the car. The deposit is non-refundable. You'll have fun with this car, but please DO NOT BID IF YOU ARE NOT SERIOUS. The car is sold "as is", "where is". **** I've been looking at the other coupes that are available on ebay and the ones that are going to be $5000 - $6000 are in better shape than this car. I don't know that they are in better shape in terms of how the car drives, but cosmetically they are in better shape. With some effort and money, this car could look like those cars, but as I say, it didn't when I bought it and I have focused on little cosmetic things but mostly on making sure the car runs great. When you're on a 14 hour round trip drive, you want to know the car is reliable and this car drives great and gets 32 or 33 MPG.
