Vehicle Detail

1999 Mercury Mountaineer, Luxury Version of Ford Explorer Very solid SUV overall. Run out extremely strong. 5.0 liter V-8 runs very well, and it’s high and dry under the hood – no leaks, no smoke, no lifter tick, no noises that shouldn’t be there. Just a reliably great running truck. Transmission shifts through all gears perfectly. Transmission was completely rebuilt at 135k miles. 174,000 miles on odometer, see below. Drove daily for about a year and a half, has been our backup for the last year or so and not driven much, but we’ve still driven it weekly, done the oil changes etc. Very solid, just the very minor surface rust like these all get around the leading edge of the rear wheel wells and a little on the rear bumper edges. See pics, but it’s minor and easily repairable if you were motivated to do so. The vehicle history report that Ebay runs in the posting, I see it noted an "accident" in 2008 - that "accident" was, a lady tapped me in a parking lot and it left a 1 inch crease near the right rear wheel well, you can see it from 5 feet away - no big deal - no claim no repair no big deal at all. “Premium” Option Package: AWD – All Wheel Drive Grey Leather Interior – in very good condition overall. Not perfect, but not ripped, torn, abused. Sliding tinted electric moonroof – works perfectly. Alloy sport wheels – in great shape, not scuffed and beat up Convenience Package – electronic displays including compass, temperature, fuel economy, MPG, trip range, and on board diagnostic check feature Enhanced CD player, with AM/FM radio, 6 speakers Factory color-keyed running boards A/C, also with Rear Controlled Climate Control Tilt Wheel Cruise Control Power Steering Power Brakes – new complete front brakes are recent and at 90% remaining Power Door Locks Power Driver’s Seat Rear seats both fold flat Reese towing package (frame mounted heavy duty hitch with wiring harness for trailers) Recent Work: Radiator replaced with new unit, not remanufactured unit - thermostat + sending unit also new. Front brakes complete, including rotors – new. All terrain tires, all 4 are new – only about 6k miles on them, see pics they’re deep in tread The Pro’s: Absolutely great runner. Extremely reliable. Clean and straight overall. Things to Consider: We charge the A/C in spring; by labor day it’s not ice cold anymore, but it is still cool. Not sure what this ultimately means, but it does hold the charge of refrigerant through most of the summer. Needs front shocks – right front shock recently failed and needs to be replaced. Drives fine, but you can feel the bounce now in the right front. Check Engine light recently came on. Our mechanic did the onboard diagnostics, it is showing code # P0442, which is defined as a “fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system”. See this link for the information on the code: http://www.obd-codes.com/p0442 according to this information the code refers to either a bad gas cap or a possible leak in an emissions tube or hose and describes the issue as minor. As this car is our backup car and really not driven much, we just never got around to dealing with getting this fixed, but from the information above, it definitely sounds minor and easy. Odometer has an issue of some kind. Occasionally the numbers stop turning and sometimes they seem to spin forward faster than they actually should. As such, we don’t believe the odometer accurately reflects true/exact mileage, so we are representing the truck just that way. An amazingly good running 174k on the odometer, but we’re unsure what it EXACTLY should read. Just want to be completely upfront about this. Never really made much difference to us because it runs like 70k miles. Nonetheless, we will check the "actual mileage unknown" box on the back of the Illinois title. Thanks for looking. Am happy to answer any questions you may have or send you additional photos if you like.
