Vehicle Detail

Rare early Moto Morini 3 1/2 first series “Prima Serie” Strada. Likely one of the earliest running Morini machines in the US. The good news. I got it running using a spare tank and a few carb parts, some cleaning and a few adjustments. It runs and I took it for a short ride up the street. Shifted up through all six gears and back down. Engine and trans were smooth and quiet, with no strange noises or smoke. Clutch works. This bike would be a solid restoration candidate or would make an excellent, exotic, interesting, and fun cafe racer. If you put gas in it (via separate fuel tank) it will fire right up. Specific good news: Engine, trans, and clutch are working at present, and I replaced the timing belt so you don't have to! For an extra $20 I'll change the oil. For 30 more I'll adjust the valves for you so the motor is ready to go. Exhaust is unusually clean for an early Morini. Likely replaced, but using factory parts. Light line of rust along top seam of silencers, otherwise very nice.Seat cover is of the correct and very rare early type and in decent shape. Use it with another base & foam, maybe? Electrics appear to be working. I put 12v on the battery leads and the rear light and inst. lights lit up.Ignition switch works.Front rim should clean up nicely. Specific challenges: Fair amount of corrosion on the rear half of the bike (frame, rear rim, seat pan, etc.). Some fasteners currently frozen.Missing petcocks, headlight, brake pedal, front fender, battery, side covers, tacho, speedo cable, and likely more (see pics)Tank is rusty inside and had some surface rust in a few spots. I shot a quick coat of red over it just to seal the metal after a quick sanding of the rust spots. I did not put fuel in this tank. Having said that, it's the rare ribbed tank that only came on these very early Morinis and appears to be salvageable. Whole bike needs paint, obviously. Needs tiresChain rustyLikely needs front brake shoes (front brake barely works)I got the throttle cables working, but the clutch cable is tight and should be replaced That's just off the top of my head. Likely needs a whole lot more. Please see pics and ask specific questions so you know what you're getting. I've seen a restored one of these go for 8500 not too long ago. It's a very desirable motorcycle. Assume that, at a minimum, it will need a full cosmetic restoration, tires, chain, and replacement of the missing parts. See pics and make your own judgment. Sale is final. Ask if there is something specific you'd like to know. Title is in some previous owner's name and came with a bill of sale, all of which I will provide to next owner. Too many projects and not enough funds. On Oct-15-18 at 11:01:54 PDT, seller added the following information: Revision on front rim condition: My earlier statement about the front rim being clean was based on the position of the rim when I was looking at it. After rotating it through a full 360 degrees I see that there is a portion of the rim that has a line of rust that likely corresponds with the low point on the rim while the bike was stored for some time in what was clearly a damp environment. It will still likely look all right after a bit of metal polish, but not perfect. On Oct-19-18 at 09:11:23 PDT, seller added the following information: Some additional notes on condition: I ran my hands over the fork tubes and did not feel any corrosion pitting (not exactly a thorough analysis, but they felt fine to me), so the forks appear to be in pretty good shape. Regarding the exhaust: the pipes are fairly nice, the exhaust collars are very clean, the silencers are nice except for a line of rust at the seams, the clamps are rusty, and there is at least some rust on the crossover pipe. Again, this is far less rust than I normally see on a Morini exhaust of this age, particularly one that spent some time in a damp environment.
