Vehicle Detail
Ok, well up for sale is my 1969 VW Double Cab pickup. First I want to state that “I just had to have one” of these beauties for years and now apparently my family really wants a camper bus, so I am willing to possibly trade toward a Westy Camper Bus 71 or older. Must be in excellent condition. As this truck is beyond excellent condition. A little history: I purchased this truck in New Hampshire from the second owner who maintained it very well and hardly ever drove it. He informed me that he purchased it from the original owner who also rarely drove it. The odometer shows 65,089 miles and the previous owner was adamant these were original miles. I can not confirm this however. The original owner apparently had the truck gone thru at some point in its life including a very well done paint job, interior, exterior and engine compartment. The engine was also rebuilt at some point during its 49 year life span. The exterior shines like new and the paint is super smooth to the touch(after several hours of scrubbing and cleaning). The side gates, tail gates and doors open, close and work as they should. After I purchased this truck I began really investigating the work/refresh this truck was given. Any rust repair needed during the refresh was clearly professionally done as none of it is noticeable on the exterior. The battery tray was replaced and there is a very small welded in patch on the passenger floor as well as a patch on the drivers floor. Anyone who knows VW’s from this era knows these are the problem spots. The repairs were very nicely done. There are a few very minor scratches and a paint chip or 2 on the body, but overall beyond excellent conditon. None of the flaws are noticeable unless you really look. The dog legs, wheel wells and rockers look phenomenal. The undercarriage had been undercoated at some point and much of it was flaking off. I had the entire undercarriage pressure washed, rust checked and then painted with rust inhibitor chassis black. There are no holes in the floors and the chassis appears very solid. The 1600 single port engine runs perfect, starts right up and never skips a beat. It has a new carburetor, ignition components and a fuel filter. The transmission works great as well as does the clutch. The entire drive train is in good working order. The brakes are in good shape and the truck stops on a dime. Brake pedal is very touchy. I just recently had the entire interior reupholstered. The front and rear seats were done professionally in tan with black stitching and black tubing. It is stunning but subtle. The door panels were replaced with new and covered to match the seats. The headliner is tan and matches very well. There is a small tear in it that is mainly hidden from the passenger sun visor. This is really the only interior flaw. The interior is in superb condition. The dash shines like new, and the rubber floor mats are in excellent conditon. All the seat belts are intact and in working condition. All the lights, horn and gauges work as they should. It is truly driver quality and drives down the road nicely. It is equipped with a nice dual exhaust with black tips. This truck comes with the following: a wooden roof rack( looks great and has been stained and painted), the canopy support bars for the bed and a very nice canopy cover. I have never installed the canopy however the canopy itself is in great shape and there are 3 support bars for it. The tires are load specific and the hubcaps are original and shine like brand new. The wheels are plasti dipped black only. This can easily be removed to show the original white wheel behind it but I love the current look. It is equipped with a working CD player as well I can not say enough about the quality of this 69 Double Cab. I absolutely love it but it needs a new good home. I have done plenty of research on these trucks and realize that low retail is $11,750 and high retail is $52,500. If you are reading this far you know the value of this truck. I will not be asking “classic car” dealer or Barrett Jackson pricing. I am looking for a fair, prompt and honest transaction even if that means not getting top dollar. The reserve is set at a very fair price and this auction should be very fun. I am willing to work on the price with the right buyer. Please, I pride myself on description and honesty and I would expect the same. Only bid or buy if you have the proper funds available. I am more than willing to answer any questions or take and send any pictures or videos to email or phone upon request. I am prompt with answering email etc. I am willing to store the truck for as long as needed for pickup and will work with any shipper to assist in transport, at the buyers expense. Lastly, this truck is not perfect and I am not claiming it is. It is however one of the nicest looking, mechanically sound Double Cabs I have ever seen. It is not quite Barrett Jackson quality however is more than worthy of any car show, cruise in, collection etc. It could be a garage/trailer queen I suppose but also could be a great daily driver. Good Luck, happy bidding. FYI. Finally got a sunny day for pictures but there is some shadowing. I am not a professional photographer. The photos do not do this VW justice but you get the picture...
