This stunning 450SL was first purchased in November of 1980 by Louis Henry Firpo at Phoenix Motor Company. Mr. Firpo, named after his uncle Luis Angel Firpo, a famous champion boxer in the 1920s, ran a successful farming business in Phoenix. He bought the 450SL for his wife, Josie, who rarely drove the car. Ms. Firpo passed away in the early 2000s and the car didn’t get much use after. The car looks great but has not been used for at least five years. The engine starts right up and runs, but the cooling system, brakes, steering, and suspension should be checked and addressed as needed. The car is driveable, but requires repairs before it is roadworthy. Defrost works, AC does not. Driver side window moves only partially. Radio and antennae work fine. The mileage on the odometer is 72,300 and the accompanying service and registration documents as well as the mileage listed on the title support the assumption that it is original. The color combination (Astral Silver 735 exterior and navy interior) is beautiful and the car shows very well. There is no rust as you would expect from a car that spent its entire life in Arizona. The original leather seats are in excellent condition and free of any rips or tears. The dash does have a few tears which are typical for Southwest cars. The dry climate and sun in Arizona guarantee a rust free car, but the dash on most cars tends to suffer from the warm climate. The carpet is in very good condition. All four tires were replaced in 2009 and still look good. The master key and one spare come with this car. A stack of registration and emissions documents as well as repair and maintenance receipts come with the car (see photos). In 1990, the car was in an accident and was professionally repaired with new parts and re-sprayed by Phoenix Motor Company, an authorized Mercedes dealer. The repair receipt will come with the car. While the paint looks great overall, there are some small door dings and minor paint chips. The soft top is original to the car and has a small tear on the driver side (see photos). I can reserve a lift for you or your appraiser/mechanic at a shop in Scottsdale (about 15 minutes from the Phoenix airport). The car has a clean Arizona title with box “A” mileage. No liens. This is a private party sale. There is no sales tax in Arizona on private party sales. The vehicle is sold as-is and where-is with no express or implied warranties. The successful high bidder will submit a $500 non-refundable PayPal deposit within 2 business days of the close of the auction to secure the vehicle. Buyer agrees to pay remaining balance due within 5 business days of the close of the auction. All financial transactions must be complete before delivery of the vehicle or title.
