Vehicle Detail
1966 Ford Econoline Heavy Duty Telephone Company Display Van. 240 inline six. 9 inch rear. 3 on-the-tree. Manual steering & brakes. Odometer says 53,008 – but it surely has been turned over at least once. Registered/Titled/Wisconsin. Blue card says purchase date May 5, 1966. Sold to Mountain States Telephone, Conrad, Montana. Lots of bumps and bruises. Original paint shows where the round Bell logo was, as well as where the telephone number was painted on the side of the van. Paneled on drivers side, windows on passenger side. Original cardboard visors. Passenger jump seat. Original mohair trimmed seats. Rust holes on driver's side rocker panels where weep holes were plugged with dirt. Undercarriage is surprisingly clean/no rust thru. Frame is solid. Engine runs strong. No knocks or funny noises. Engine is caked with 50 years of grease and crud, but it’s all there right down to the original air cleaner on the 1BBL carb. Everything else is pretty much shot. Window rubber is shrunk/hard. Brake lines gone. Tires rotted. Fuel line gone (van runs from a gas can next to engine). Gas tank is intact and solid. WIFE SAYS GET IT OUT OF THE GARAGE.On Dec-08-17 at 18:02:32 PST, seller added the following information: **** NEW PICTURES ADDED **** Good luck to everyone bidding! Wow. A lot of people have been sending questions. I'll cover them here for everyone. Q: Are those bullet holes on the drivers side? A: Yes and No. They are bullet hits, but not holes. The area around them is puckered up a bit. Three on the panel, one just above the drivers door, and one in the middle of the back of the drivers door. The kid I bought it from said it was his grandfathers nephew who had the van in college. Grandpa said the nephew used to drive to Mexico and buy weed and haul it back to sell at college. The bullet holes came after a deal gone bad, and the kid drove the van to Wisconsin and parked it on the farm with a tarp over it. Sounded like a fairy tale until I got the van home and saw the stickers on the windows, one from Arizona State (1987) and a "Tourista" sticker from Mexico. And, buried in the glove compartment was a beaded necklace roach clip. The story and the roach clip come with the van. Q: Can you call me to discuss the van? A: Sorry, several people wanted me to call but I just don't know what else to add other than what is in the description and pictures. Q: Why are you selling it? A: It's been in my garage for six years. I couldn't figure out whether to go original, light mod, or full mod. I hemmed and hawed and my wife said, "why don't you let someone else decide?" And, she wanted it out of the garage! Q: Any bodywork? A: None. Q: Any other modifications? A: None. This van is unmolested. Q: Have you driven the van? A: Yes, I have driven it up and down the street, but holding a can of gas and using the emergency brake while shifting the three-on-the-tree was kind of hard to do. And, at slow speeds and no power steering this thing turns hard!
