FOR AUCTION: 1969 Pontiac Catalina 2-door; not Bonneville, Impala, SS, or Caprice, 428 For Auction is a 69 Catalina 2-door hardtop and comes with several H.O. performance and other optional components. I don’t want to misuse descriptors like “Survivor’ or “Unmolested;” but its a straight, rust free, strong running, solid car with 53K original miles. It still wears its original Mayfair Maze paint and bright chrome. This car could easily be a daily driver or cruiser with a little TLC and a fresh vinyl top; or its a great foundation to take as far as you like. I was working on the car for military member assigned overseas, and continued overseas work unfortunately drove him to request I sell the project. He had a bunch of factory 428 H.O. parts and neat, original, optional equipment with the car and intended to recreate a 428 H.O. Catalina. H.O. Cats are more rare than 427 Impalas and are arguably better looking and better performers. As factory assembled, the car has some desirable options like Power Disc Brakes and a Tilt Steering Column. The vinyl top was Fawn Brown which was pretty uncommon with the Mayfair Maze Yellow. As mentioned above, the original 290 HP 400 engine runs strong and the Turbo 400 tranny shifts smoothly. No leaks. RECENT MAINTENANCE: New Timing Chain, Timing Gear, and Water Pump less than 2000 miles ago New Front and Rear Brakes 4 New 15” radial tires on Rally II wheels New Shocks 3:42 Open Rear End installed (correct for 428 H.O. cars in 69) ADDITIONAL PERFORMANCE or OPTIONAL COMPONENTS that come with the car (all correct ‘69 parts): Code Option 351 TH 400 A/T; PC code (Correct for H.O. 428 Cars, not installed) 362 3.42:1 differential (open, correct for 428 H.O., currently installed) 692 Power Flex Fan - 7 blade (Std for 428 H.O. non A/C cars, not installed) 702 Super Duty Radiator (4 core, quite rare; probably out of a 69 Cat Squad Car; untested and not installed) 614 Rear Sway Bar (from later model B-body, was as dealer installed or police option in ‘69) 444 Auxiliary Gauges Speed-o-Meter (has in-dash Oil Pressure, Amps, Temp, and Gas; with wiring, not installed) 384 AM/FM radio (original 69 radio, not installed) 401 Custom Foam Seat; Front (electric bench seat; rails, wiring, motor and switch; not installed) 404 rear window defogger (kind of rare and odd, original ‘69 component, with wiring, notT installed) 454 Rally II Wheels (one wheel pitted) 462 Sports Steering Wheel (original 69 wheel, not installed) 474 Clock (working) 481 Dual Exhaust (previously installed) 492 Remote Trunk Release 501 Power Steering 504 Tilt Steering Column 511 Power Disc Brakes 532 Soft-Ray Glass, front 561 Power Bench Seat (rails, wiring, motor and switch; not installed) 652 Trunk Light 671 Under Hood Utility Lamp 674 Fender Skirts (original to car, not installed) THE BAD: The rear window channel eroded and the repair is not complete. The leak is currently plugged, but the best way to complete the repair is to replace some of the window channel metal. Some interior pieces are removed in the back of the car awaiting completion of the rear window channel The hood has been damaged at the left rear corner. The story is not important, but it will have to be repaired by somebody more proficient with body work or the hood will need replacement. The hood hinges have been replaced and are fine. The front seat is torn and could use a fresh cover. The rear seat should clean up fine with a shampooing. Scratch along the door (see photo) acquired while removing the car from a trailer. THE 428 The 428 IS NOT included in this auction, but is available to the winning bidder for $2900.. The YK block we got with the car ended up cracked and unrepairable. We used a ‘69 YH block and ‘69 crank. We bored it .030, used ICON forged pistons, and had the entire rotating assembly professionally balanced. The H.O. “62” heads are redone and port-matched. The pistons are dished resulting in a 9.88 to 1 Compression Ratio.. pretty safe on today’s gas. Cam is a Comp Cams XE grind. In summary, its a heck of a good car and a lot of stuff for the money. The reserve is very reasonable. A Chevy with the equivalent parts would likely be double the money. Some of the parts above alone have some decent value. The car, completed with the parts included, will draw plenty of attention; you seldom see a cool B-Body out there. Even though Pontiac made many more B-bodies than GTOs, Ebay is now full of GTOs and you see few 2-door, full-sized cars. It seems most of them found their way to the crushers. I have credibly described the car and do not believe there are any more significant strong or weak points to cover. Please post any questions. Car sold as is. No returns.
