Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very nice straight, super solid, totally restored example of the 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe. I have known of this car for the last 20 years and have been actively been trying to get it ever since. Last year I succeeded in getting it, and now that I have it other things have come up and here is someone's chance to get a really nice car. My neighbor bought this car back in 1957, brought it home, tore it apart and was going to make a stock car out of it. At about the same time his dad sold him the home farm, so he thought he had better settle down and tend to business farming. The car was set back together and pushed to the back corner of the machine shed. Back in 2000 I was in the process of building my first 40 Ford Coupe and in comes my neighbor and tells me about his car that he had all these years and I never knew about it. We went and looked at it and I told him he had better get this car back on the road because it was the nicest old car body I had ever seen. (completely rust free and straight) He did just as we had discussed and did a complete every nut and bolt restoration to completely stock. Everything for this car was from the original car. The motor was rebuilt by an older guy from our area know for his flathead work. It was the last engine rebuild he ever did. It runs perfect. Everything on the driveline was rebuilt as needed. The paint job was done by Kappy's Auto Restoration and is excellent. Kappy commented that it was the nicest old car body he had ever worked on. The color is not the usual Honduras Maroon from 40, but actually a 47 Ford color called "Pheasant Red" that I think looks great. All trim was replaced with new from Bob Drake, the stock bumpers and guards were replated. The entire interior was redone with a Lebarron-Bonnie interior. When I got the car all I did was give it a little attitude adjustment with a 4" dropped "Easy rider" axle kit from Chassis Engineering - included tube shocks and sway bar. Then added their rear lowered transverse spring. I also added the big and little wheel and radial tire treatment with 46 caps. It drives great. Well, that's about the end of this novel. Check out the pictures and they should tell the story. If you have any further questions just ask. Otherwise you can be rest assured this car is about as good as they get. Good Luck
