Vehicle Detail
The good: 1. Numbers matching (engine and frame), 3 owner, low windshield Datsun Sports SPL311 survivor/driver. 2. Coil, condenser, rotor, distributor cap, plugs & wires replaced, battery fuse installed. 3. Solex Mikuni N44PHH-A11 new style carburetors rebuilt and fuel hoses replaced. 4. Mechanical fuel pump, filter element in glass fuel filter and fuel fill hose in trunk replaced. 5. Fuel tank cleaned and sealed with POR15 US Standard Fuel Tank Sealer. 6. New Aluminum radiator, radiator cap and overflow tank cap, thermostat and coolant hoses installed. Radiator painted black to match OEM appearance. 7. Brake calipers resleeved and brake pistons rebuilt, rubber seals replaced, rotors and drums turned, Brake master, pads and shoes replaced. 8. Rubber brake lines replaced and long hard line to back brakes replaced. 9. Clutch master, slave, hydraulic line and clutch fork seal replaced. 10. Tires and battery replaced. 11. LED brake light bulbs installed and LED CHMSL added (on rollbar) for safety. 12. Exhaust resonator and pipe after muffler replaced. 13. Vintage look two post RetroSound RC-900C head unit with Rockford Fosgate R1525 speakers and 3.5mm male aux. input cable in glove compartment. Front speaker is in stock housing, back speaker is aft of driver door in OEM circular cutout. 14. Seat padding, door cards, pedal covers, carpet replaced. 15. This car was not running before I purchased it, but was stored inside (approx. 2000 – 2010), so that most chrome is of driver quality. 16. What works: Clock, horns, directional signals, tachometer, oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel gauge, wipers, washer pump, heater & controls, map and LED dash lights, trip odometer reset cable, hood release cable, hidden trunk release pull added, roll up windows and vent windows function, lap belts and lights. 17. Valuable parts: fuel tank cap, Solex Mikuni N44PHH-A11 new style carburetors (performance upgrade over stock SU’s), rare MY1967.5 headrests, jack, spare & hold down & trunk mat, padded roll bar, concave side molding, original dash pad, OEM wheels and covers, OEM center console & shift plate, OEM Steering wheel and working horn button, Amco Luggage Rack, original keys, original owner’s manual and some service records. The not so good: 1. This car was originally red and then got restored in the 70’s with bondo and blue lacquer paint. Lacquer paint continues to shrink over time and paint shows spider webbing (see photo). 2. This car was originally purchased in Wisconsin at Midway Datsun Saab dealership (Route 1, Highway 53 715-834-6666), so named because it was midway between Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls. This car was likely used during the winter and shows rust on frame and floor boards. Frame patch was fabricated by a model maker and welding was done in Volo, IL (see photo). Later models used a welded “saddle” in this region. 3. To get this vehicle on the road, a shortcut was taken on the floorboards. Passenger and driver floor section patch panels were purchased from Rallye and placed over the rusted floor boards. These are wedged in place but are NOT welded in place. Front of rocker panels as inspected by reaching inside fenders are solid. 4. Trunk floor shows typical fatigue cracking at perimeter, supports for gas tank were added to trunk. End of one support can be seen in trunk photo (sticking out from under trunk mat). 5. Windshield has a small crack in lower passenger side corner, covered by vintage registration sticker. 6. Rust at rear driver side wheel well and small dents/dings as shown in photos. 7. Rust on passenger side vent window frame chrome as shown in photos. 8. Vehicle comes with OEM parts needed to install soft top (frame, latches, cables), but original soft top and seals are weathered. 9. Amco luggage rack installed crooked on trunk panel (see photo). 10. Exhaust system may have leak. Video available to hear operating engine. 11. What doesn’t work: speedometer, odometer (* stopped at 65,724), trip odometer (this may be cable spacer washer at transmission), ammeter, back up lights (both of these lights function but were always illuminated so I installed a separate under dash switch to activate them). Vehicle history: 1967 – 1977: Owned by daughter of Midway Saab Datsun dealership owner in Wisconsin. 1977 – 2009: Owned by lead singer & percussionist of Mr. Myers fame in Illinois (see Rum Punch on youtube, it’s a thing). 2009 – present: Purchased from storage unit in Cortland, IL, recommissioned by current owner in Illinois. Operating video (260MB) available upon request, will send additional photos if requested and all questions will be answered promptly. Will deliver within 30 miles of Lake Zurich, IL after payment received. On Sep-21-17 at 15:12:33 PDT, seller added the following information: The following has been added to address questions asked:I would recommend shipment over a 900 mile road trip. Concerns with a 900 mile road trip would be top speed and stopping distances versus modern vehicles in an emergency situation. I am comfortable at 50 mph for 30 minutes which is behind my offer to deliver within 30 mile radius. There is no hardtop, but I will install soft top for protection during shipment. I have included an additional photo showing the soft top. Please note: the photo of the top was taken a year ago and the top windshield frame has since been replaced with one with better chrome as shown in all other photos. There is no air cleaner, just the Solex Mikuni velocity stacks as shown in engine bay photo. On Sep-23-17 at 07:16:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Under carriage photos posted in original listing were taken by lifting vehicle with floor jack. Three additional photos were taken by lifting vehicle higher and placing camera further underneath the car. I can not post any more photos (24 is max. and due to auction ending this weekend, I can not delete any) but can email them.
