You are bidding on a nice running/driving 1968 Corvette Convertible driver/project. This car was originally ordered well-equipped with the optional and RARE L36 427/390HP engine, Four Speed Transmission, Positraction, Disc Brakes, P01 wheel covers, Deluxe Interior, AM/FM radio (with correct/hard to find '68-only knobs), Tinted Glass, Astro-Ventilation, among other options. While this car is currently a Metallic Silver, it was originally delivered in British Green, which matches the 983 code on the trim tag. The original gas tank was dropped out of the car to determine if the original tank sticker was in place, and to document the fact that it is indeed a real-deal 427 Corvette Convertible. The tank sticker indeed documents most options including most importantly, the L36 engine option. While it's not the nicest/cleanest tank sticker I have ever located , it is there and partially legible. Unlike 1000's of supposedly real Big Block Corvettes with ZERO documentation/paperwork, this car is clearly the REAL DEAL. The 427/390HP, four speed transmission, and several other options are visible on the tank sticker. We all know how many people are restamping/faking engines these days. I will buy ten incorrect motor/tank sticker documented Corvettes to one supposedly correct engine, non-documented Corvette as with this Corvette, you always know you have the REAL DEAL and not someone's built fake. The body, frame, and the other areas of concern on most Corvettes of this era are actually QUITE NICE on this car. The car gaps/fits pretty darn decent for a 50 year old Vette actually. The frame is devoid of ANY rust issues, and is astonishingly rock solid front-to-rear. The frame rail end caps, kick ups, birdcage, windshield frame, etc are all excellent, super solid, and devoid of rust issues! The frame only has very light surface rust in some areas, which would easily clean off/paint up. Not your average rusty/crusty/patched-up frame often found on Corvettes of this era. I cannot find any evidence of accidents, patch work, etc. The original fiberglass floor pans on the underside are unpainted/raw and would clean up beautifully. This car has NOT had the normal rattle-can black spray paint restoration to hide previous repairs, rust, etc. What you see is what you get. The original bonding strips are in all four quarter panels of the car, indicating that the car is a no-hit, original panel Corvette. The doors, hood, headlights, align, fit well for a 50 year old car. The front header panel is extremely nice/straight/clean, without any of the normal aluminum pop rivet/corrosion often found on the steel bumper era Vettes. The thing I like about Corvettes with older paint is that you can see what you are getting. If there were past repairs--even quality repairs--20 plus years later, it's almost always evident. The car has 20-30 year old paint and it will likely need a repaint eventually. It's decent enough if you wanted to put a polishing wheel to it, and touch it up a bit, respray the hood (paint peeling a bit in the middle of the hood), it could certainly be improved upon if desired. The paint is shiny but there are paint chips, scratches, minor defects here and there so it's definitely not 100 point show car paint, but presentable enough to be a fun car that can be driven and enjoyed as it is without the worry of a rock chip, etc like you have with fresh paint. There are no significant stress cracks or other serious damage to the body and it would be a very straightforward car to strip and repaint without the worry of extensive fiberglass repairs or panel replacement prior to a repaint. The brightwork/chrome/trim is in good condition given the fact that it all appears to be original stuff. The front and rear bumpers appear to be originals as are the gas door, door handles, emblems, etc. New lower grilles have been installed on the front of the vehicle. The car has stamped steel wheels with the correct/original P01 wheel covers. Tires are older and mismatched, but hold air fine. The interior appears to be a combination of original and replacement componentry. The interior is very nice condition given this fact. The seat covers, dash, dash pad, gauges, and steering wheel are actually quite nice for original, and they are parts that are certainly nice enough to be reused. The soft padded upper/center shifter console and hard plastic arm rest console are both new reproductions that were recently installed. RH door panels is in quite nice condition for an original, and the LH door panel will need replacement as it is worn on the top where your arm would lay. As nice as the interior is, I would search for an original LH door panel to install, and dye it black if needed. Rear storage trays and frames will need replacement, rear quarter trim is missing, carpet is presentable/usable. The convertible top material is needing replacement as it does not keep out the weather, but the top frame itself is in excellent condition. Please keep this in mind if you are shipping the vehicle via open transportation. I could likely cover the top frame better prior to shipment if open transport is desired. The engine compartment appears to be mostly original with the majority of original componentry in place. The engine runs great, it's quiet, doesn't smoke, runs clean. I have a video of it running I can email you. Minor lifter tick is slightly noticeable, likely an adjustment, or from sitting/needs driven. A brand new/rebuilt carburetor, coil, and pick up was just installed in the past few weeks ($525). The actual mileage on the vehicle is unknown, but it shows around 5000 miles on the odometer, so given the nice condition of the interior my bet is that it's likely 105K miles. The engine is a non-matching number replacement, and it appears to be a 1969 396 high performance block according the rear casting number (3969854) and stamping on the front pad (KB). The vehicle can be driven down the street, starts, stops and shifts but I would give it a more thorough check over before putting it out on the interstate, or putting extensive mileage on it. Needed misc I am aware of: Tach not hooked up due to HEI distributor. Vacuum switch needs replaced for wiper panel (cowl panel raises when started), wiper switch and/or motor needs replaced. Shifter can be a little sticky, headlights are slow to open. Most gauges work fine. The brakes operate/stop but aren't especially strong so I would give them a check out as well. The exhaust is solid, quiet and devoid of any exhaust leaks or known issues. All old cars drip something but this car is surprisingly dry underneath! It does not leave puddles of this and that wherever you park it! Remember it's a project/driver, so some effort/repair work could be required on your part. For seriously interested buyers, I can send additional pictures, including additional underside views, more views of the tank sticker, and a video of the vehicle starting up, and running too. Contact me and I can send these to you. If you are looking for a complete, running/driving, tank sticker DOCUMENTED Big Block Corvette Convertible, here's an excellent opportunity for a collectible car that you can drive and enjoy as is, and do eventual further restoration on. The verbiage/information above, and the pictures are quite representative of this car. Documented, big block steel bumper convertibles in ANY CONDITION under $20K are nearly impossible to find these days! If you follow the market, you know that this is Big Block Coupe money for a nice driver/project!
