Originally imported years ago by a US Diplomat,This 1989 Peugeot 309 GTI is a stock example with 46k original kilometers, translating to 29k Miles on the factory original engine and transmission. This is one of around 5300 built, and the 309 registry accounts for around 2000 left on the road worldwide. Though the contemporary 205 GTI is better known, the 309 GTI was a success when introduced with Peugeot’s then-trademark soft spring/taut damping ride, handling balance and torquey 1.9L engine. This one is in excellent mechanical condition and 100% factory original. The original Paint shows few blemishes however body is free of dents or accidental damage. OEM alloy wheels specific to the GTI and are in very good original condition. Badges, plastic and rubber trim including weatherstripping all present well. The the car is just as clean underneath. The interior retains its original upholstery the has been well-preserved. Surprisingly for a Peugeot of this era. The well preserved dash is free of cracks. Carpets, door panels and stock leather wrapped steering wheel are all in very good condition. The vacuum sealed sliding glass sunroof operates smoothly and quickly in both directions, and the surrounding headliner does not sag. All gauges, lights, switches and accessories work well, though the OEM Clarion radio has been replaced with a more modern unit, but I will provide the new owner with the cleanly removed original radio. To add to the collectibility of this particular 309 is the fact that it has working air conditioning! This Peugeot’s 1.9 liter four cylinder was rated at 130 HP when new and is known for its torquey power band. This one remains all stock from induction to exhaust, both very commonly changed out for aftermarket items. Its last service was April 2017 during this time the fuel pump was replaced. Throttle response is crisp, clutch is strong and gear changes are precise. The steering is direct and full of feel. It feels civilized and comfortable until you turn up the heat a bit at which point the whole car comes alive, with fabulous neutral handling. overall this is a beautiful vehicle and the only thing its missing is its new owner.
