Vehicle Detail
This is my dream car that I just don't have time for. It's been in my family since before I was born. It sat in the garage for most of my life, until 1998 when I joined the Marines and my mother gave me the car as a going away present. Mechanically: Before I owned the car, the transmission was rebuilt, and only has about 20000 miles on it since then. To this day it shifts like a dream. When I received the car, it did not run. Between 2001 and 2003 the engine and carb were completely remanufactured. The car runs like an absolute champ. Personally, I spent a little over $6k at that time, between doing some of the work myself and outsourcing some of it. During the remanufacture of the engine, there was a mild cam upgrade. The exhaust manifolds were replaced with 4 port Hedman headers. The catalytic converter is gone, and the original exhaust is gone. Right now it's just a couple short pipes and two Turbo II mufflers. The car originally had AC, but that is also gone. Since 2003 I've probably only put 1000 miles on the car, I try to take it out a couple times every summer, and last year I had to replace the battery in order to do so. There is a small coolant leak, either on the thermostat or right next to it. I just do not have time to play with it anymore, so I just have to check the coolant level before taking it out. I have just about all the receipts of everything I did to the car since 2001. Exterior/Body: Around the early 2000 time frame, I put new tires on the car. They are old but have almost no tread loss and do not appear to be dry rotted at all. Overall, the car looks really good, but there are some scratches, probably from the kids since this car pretty much just sits in the garage. The rear wheel wells have some rust and will need to be replaced. You can see in two of the pictures what I mean if you zoom in. The rocker panels will likely need to be replaced as well. The underside of the car has some rust, which to my understanding is pretty typical for this type of car. There is also a small hole about the size of a quarter in the passenger side floor pan. All the decals are in good shape. The rims that are on the vehicle are not original, however, the originals will go with the car, they are currently in the trunk. The doors sag a little bit, and the some of the weather stripping will need to be replaced. The car is garaged, but when I washed it the doors did have some leakage. Interior/Electrical: The driver seat has a tear in it, which can be seen in one of the photos. The rest of the seats are in good shape, they just need to be cleaned up. Same with the white doors. The factory stereo and rear speakers are gone, but the 8-Track player is still there. I do not know if it works. There are newer speakers in the rear deck, which has a piece of white vinyl that I placed there as the original material is gone. Below is just a clean metal deck. The power windows work, but they are a little slow. The blower fan does not turn on, I've never investigated why. The inside of the trunk is pretty rusty. All the lights work, and the gage cluster works, with the exception of the analog clock. In the corner of the dash, there is a little bit of deterioration of the dash where the window meets the dashboard. The parking brake is not connected, I think it just needs a cable, it was just never one of my priorities, even when I had time for the car. Overall this is a good running and good looking car. I hope I didn't oversell the bad stuff, but I don't want to misrepresent it. The Trans Am is being sold as-is, so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, want to see more photos, or even if you want to take a test drive. Update: I just showed the car to a local eBay bidder, and it was pointed out to me that there is some pretty bad rust on the rear of the frame, and that one of the rear quarter panels will need to be replaced. I'm not much of a car guy, so please ask me questions if there is something specific you want to know about this car.
