In 1998 and 1999 Ford had an "F250 light duty" which was the body style of a 150, but with 7 lug axles, etc. In 1998 (and possibly 99) that was the ONLY F250 available. Then the Super Duty's came out in late 99. Rather than have a "light duty" and a "super duty" 250, they discontinued the l.d. series, and offered an F150 "7700" package, which brings the GVWR of the truck to 7700 LBS. (A super duty is 8800). This allows people to insure a "1/2 ton" truck, but have (almost) a 3/4 based on specs. For 2000, the former F250, which had been available as a Regular Cab long bed and a Super Cab short bed, was continued to be available, except that it was called an F150 with 7700 payload Group (this truck). FYI: The 7200 pound GVWR available in 1999 was discontinued. In addition, the 4.6L engine and the manual transmission was also discontinued. Starting in the 2000 model year, the four wheel drive version of this new F150 package included a front GAWR of 4150 pounds, which had previously been available only with the F250 Snow Plow Prep Package. As such, the 2000 F150 7700 Payload Group 4x4 was the only F150 authorized for snow plow usage. The 7700 was the heavy duty payload package offered by Ford on the F150 from 2000-2004 (as the Heritage model in 04). It replaced the F250LD that was offered from 1997-1999.
