I went to the DMV to get a duplicate and they told me it could take up to a month to get a new one. They however told me that it is not needed, and gave me the documents to sign that are the equivalent to register the car to your name. I can go with you to the DMV if you are uncomfortable with this. Sorry for the mistake.
