Year: 1979 Make: Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 Title: Clear/Ohio title Overall Condition: Good looking, highly collectable, majestic classic Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 performance sedan. Black exterior in fair shape with excellent black leather interior. All electrics tested (windows, sunroof, connected lights, wipers) all appear to function (only the Germans). Glass is good all around, chrome and brushed aluminum there and in good shape, headliner and sun shades also good shape. Surprising, carpet, mats and trunk mats in fair shape. Inside dash elements all strong with wood in good shape, no obvious tears in leather on dash or console and door panels strong. All exterior and interior handles and latches function as designed. Key negatives are rust in rockers/dog legs (slightly worse in passengers side), slight damage to left front fender and missing left front headlight/both blinker assemblies. Highly sought after original driving lights in place and intact. Mechanical Condition: MB engine and mechanicals are all original, in place and intact. Engine turns over cleanly with all under hood elements (starter, alternator, power steering pump, etc) turning as designed, nothing frozen up. Oil and transmission fluid are clean and no obvious leaks underneath. Transmission lever moves and shifts through gears, but rear wheels are locked as brakes are stuck from sitting (fairly normal). Previous owner stated parked due to fuel pump failure. Body Condition: Clean, straight body with very rust noted in general description. Hood, doors and trunk open and close correctly with solid MB thunk and all body lines are crisp. Michelin tires show minimal, even wear but are old and cracking on sidewalls. Wheels are in good condition, but there is no spare. Original (but incomplete) tool kit and jack are included. Paint Condition: Based on the body work and rust repairs will need repainting. Interior Condition: Black leather with no evident rips or tears. There is little wear, almost no fade and no obvious tears on seats, dash, door panels – this is amazing. Carpet, as well, is in surprising shape (rear shelf faded and shrunken). Wood, glass, instruments, steering wheel, blinker/wiper/cruise stalks and other controls (heat/air/fan) have minimal wear and function crisply. All gauges – speedometer, odometer, tachometer, oil pressure, temperature, fuel and fuel economy – are clean and with working panel lights. Electric sunroof functions and appears to open and close properly. Value: At this price this is huge value for the money, particularly given the high performance pedigree and low production numbers on this vehicle – despite that it requires a specialty buyer with an understanding of the vehicle. The spectrum at which these cars trade is huge with really excellent 10 of 10 cars selling in the $50K segment, average condition in the $20Ks and there are no beaters While the MB has been in the previous owner possession for over seven years it has only seen the inside of a garage during that time.
