Vehicle Detail
1974 Volkswagen Karmann GhiaLast year of the Karmann Ghia The first Volkswagen Karmann Ghia's rolled off assembly line in Osnabruck, German as 1956 models. The automotive and the public instantly fell in love with the beautiful design and hand crafted workmanship. The Karmann Ghia was last produced in 1974 and only 365,912 coupes and 79,326 convertibles were produced in 20 years, which make the Karmann Ghia a fairly rare car. Today, the Karmann Ghia is one of the most sought after air-cooled Volkswagens. This is probably due to their unique design and hand built unibody construction. The biggest drawback to restoring a Ghia is that they tend to rust considerably more than other Volkswagens. It is very rare to find Karmann Ghia rust free and usually involves extensive undercarriage and body repairs. The Karmann Ghia has a graceful, timeless design that, in 1969, was named one of the most beautifully designed products in the world. In June of 1972, Car and Driver magazine put the Karmann Ghia into world class status by comparing it to the ever classic Porsche Speedster. The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is truly a special car. It is beautiful and timeless in design and it was wonderfully affordable, reliable, and fun to drive! Body Completely repainted with a correct style oil based paint - Woodlands Green Metallic. Not perfect but looks great. 9 out of 10. Looks good even up to a few inches of the car. Rust free - Floor pans, frame, undercarriage, suspension all rust free - Cleanest VW floor pans I've ever seen. I striped out all the old carpet and wire brushed the floor pans and repainted with primer to continue to keep them in good shape. New headlightsClean bumpers and front grillNo body damage. There was some slight Oklahoma hail damage when I purchased the car and I had that all cleaned up as much as possible before I had it repainted. Still has the original spare tire and jack up front. SuspensionNew brakes on all four wheelsNew master cylinder and brake linesRebuilt front steering box and front suspensionRear suspension is a little squeaky but still solid. I understand you can spray talcum powder in there and it will clear up the squeak. Not a perfect car, but super fun to drive. Everyone loves the car and gives it a thumbs up. I've put a lot of work into the car but my wife and I do not have time to drive it like we would like too. Good Luck
