Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1979 Honda cx500. It is titled in my name, tagged, and insured. This is the fourth cx I've owned and I can say they are fun dependable bikes. I especially like these Deluxe models of the earlier years with the larger tank and full front fender. I have taken this one a good ways from its stock look. Mechanically, it needs nothing. As a matter of fact, its the first one of the four I've owned to have the punch marks by the engine number showing it has had the Honda factory recall performed for the cam chain. One discrepancy is the title reads 41,000 miles (or something like that) because when I bought it it had the wrong gauges on it (from a 1980-81). I replaced those gauges with a correct set for this bike. So, the mileage on the title matches that old speedo. However, it may or may not have that many miles but I doubt it does. The front brake disk is in excellent condition and shows very little wear and the bike runs extremely well. Plugs are a perfect tan. Absolutely no leaks. I would ride this bike from Maryland to Seattle. Upgrades I made to it include a Nissan front brake master cylinder and lever from Randakks as well as Randakks carb kit, probably the best available. It has a 2-into-1 exhaust that not only sounds great but seems to give the bike a real strong power band. Tires are new, battery was new last fall. The rear frame has been modified to accept the custom seat. Two support members were welded to the frame so its been strengthened. The seat is sculpted from the original foam and was sort of a test seat for me so I did the stitching which looks OK but not as good as I usually do! However, it was so comfortable I left it like it is. The lighting is excellent. All signal lights are custom as well as the tail light which by the way is a NOS vintage part made of metal, not plastic. It still has the factory sticker on it which I've never bothered to remove. Tank has no rust or deposits. Very cool color and custom paint scheme. Handle bars are a flat track style to get a lower look but still be comfortable. The rear fenders from a cb750. Fenders have been brushed to dull the chrome. There are a lot of little things that have been modified so I'm not listing everything. Its fun to ride and dependable. This would be a perfect bike for someone who may want to continue some of the cosmetic modifications but doesn't want to mess with mechanical work. I commuted in and out of DC on one of these for 3 years and I would do the same on this one (my friend actually owns that bike and it still runs great). Payment will be by cash, bank transfer or cashiers check. A $200 down payment is due at the close of the auction. I have 100% feedback, the bike is as described. I would be happy to answer questions not covered in the description. I am driving from Maryland to Montana around June 13. I can possibly deliver the bike to destinations west of Maryland for a very reasonable fee.
