Vehicle Detail
1974 BMW 2002tii - California car until I bought this on ebay in 2005. It came with the original blue license plates. Since then has been stored in the winter, driven only in good weather. I have put approximately 4000 miles on it in 10 years. Looking to sell it now because I just don't drive it enough. The odometer reads about 41K, but I doubt that is the original mileage (the odometer only has 5 digits). Previous owner restored it. He converted it to round tail lights using a '73 donor car. I believe this car was probably red originally, but it is stunning in Polaris Silver. I don't have service records prior to my purchase of it, but was told the engine had been rebuilt 20K miles prior to my purchase. Car runs very well. It accelerates quickly and handles very well. It has a 5-speed manual transmission. Sunroof, windows and wings all work. Clock works. It has a beautiful Nardi steering wheel (those retail for several hundred dollars). It is a stunning car and draws a lot of attention. Probably not your car if you don't want to talk to random people about your car! The only issues I am aware of with it are that the brakes squeak some of the time (I have been told by my mechanic that this is brake corrosion due to the fact I don't drive the car enough). Windshield wiper fluid does not work. The previous owner installed a CD player but there are no speakers. It is now an older restoration with a few small blemishes and what I consider to be minor rust. There is a crack in the middle of the dashboard (see photo). If you would like additional photos, let me know.. I am not a car person, just loved this kind of car since the 1970's. I will do my best to answer any questions. Thanks for looking! On May-15-16 at 17:52:22 PDT, seller added the following information: 5/15/16 Hi. I have received several questions since this listing got posted. I have tried to respond to individual with questions, but my yahoo account is being finicky with interfacing with ebay for unclear reasons. I know at least one of my responses went through, but just in case they aren't all. Here are my answers to various questions:1. I will have my mechanic check to see if the engine block VIN matches the other VINs on this car and will post the answer here. I will try to get that answer in the next 1-2 days.2. I will also try to get some photos of the underneath of the car at the same time for those of you wondering about rust.3. I presume the car was red initially based on a few small paint flecks. It looks red underneath to me. However, I do know that not all of the car is original. The previous owner did convert the backend to round tail lights using a '73 donor (and maybe the donor car was red).4. I do believe this to be an original tii car, not converted to one. The VIN numbers in 1974 that start with 278 signify tii.5. As noted above, my understanding is that the engine was rebuilt 20K before I got the car in 2005 (and thus, about 24K ago now). I base this on the previous owner's listing - I got NO records with the car when I bought it. All I can tell you for sure is what has happened in the last 10 years since I got it.6. The car runs very well. Fast acceleration and cruises well.7. I know of no accidents. There have been none in my 10 years of ownership. The frame is straight and the title is clear. I think that hits the highlights so far. Thanks for looking and thanks for asking questions. I will just keep posting info here for everyone to see. I will do my best to get answers to you. (Again, I am not a true car person and don't really speak this language, so thanks for your patience!) On May-17-16 at 18:15:51 PDT, seller added the following information: 05/17/16My mechanic checked the engine block VIN. It does NOT match the car so the engine is not original to the car. Engine VIN is 2762323. Car VIN is as listed above. Thanks for looking. And if anyone would like an inspection done, let me know. Ask questions now and do your due diligence now. This is a 42 year-old car. It's warranty is long expired! It is an as-is buy! I have a ton more photos of the car. Ebay won't let me just put the link here because it is not "clickable". Email me if you want the link to them. Thanks!!
