Vehicle Detail
Suzuki 1981 PE 175. This PE 175 is a moderately restored, all original, low hour, time machine. I looked for over a decade to find a great PE 175 that wasn’t butchered or run into the ground and finally found this one. While faded and oxidized in places this bike came to me on the original tires with about 80% of the tread left and on the standard cylinder bore with all plastic parts intact. Plus the engine still turned over and had no internal or external rust. The engine runs and shifts very well and the clutch works as it should. Looks like this two-owner bike was ridden for a few hours and then stored. The second owner purchased to restore but never got around to it and then sold it to me. Titled in Iowa for off road use only. I planned on keeping this bike forever but plans change and I have too many bikes and some must go – my loss is your gain. Frame is the original OEM frame with no damage, dented tubes, broken brackets, stripped threads or rust. Re-painted with Eastwood’s Frame Paint. All fasteners were either restored to factory finish or replaced with NOS originals. All of the wheel, swing arm and steering stem bearings were cleaned and re-greased as they are in great shape. The upper and lower triple clamps were repainted to match the original Suzuki champagne gold paint color. All new NOS cables installed. Wheels are in good shape (some minor rust and pitting on the spokes & scratches on outer rims) with new Dunlop Geomax tires. The front & rear hubs are oxidized in places and need to be restored – I had the brake panels powder coated so they look new. The front fork was disassembled, cleaned and new fork seals, O-rings & fluid installed along with restored lower fork legs. The fork legs are near perfect with some minor pitting in the triple clamp area. The original fork boots were cleaned and re-used as they are still pliable with no cracks. Forks have modified damper rods (by Bruce Triplett) and heavier springs (185 lbs. +). Other suspension upgrades include new Hagon Trail shocks with heavier springs. Brake shoes and drum internals are all original and in great shape. Other new parts include the fuel petcock and a new reproduction seat cover (original base and foam in VG shape). Aluminum swing arm is original with some discoloration and scratches as the only detraction (I didn’t want to try and restore it since it looked so good). Engine is on the original standard bore and the cylinder was honed and a new OEM standard piston, rings, pin & bearing were installed. Piston to bore clearances are still in the mid-range of the factory specification for the standard bore. New crank seals were installed but the cases were not split. The 6-speed transmission works perfectly and clutch plates/springs were replaced on the original, like new condition clutch basket. Oil seals for shifter and kick starter shafts were replaced. Cylinder and head were vapor blasted and left unpainted. Carburetor is a new Mikuni VM34. The excellent condition OEM expansion chamber and silencer were cleaned & painted. NOS side covers with reproduction decals and OEM front fender were installed. Rear fender is the restored original. The gas tank is from another PE 175 (1981) that while it has the typical early Suzuki fuel tank discoloration and surface hazing/cracking is solid and very presentable. The original tank is cracked and faded but it and all of the other original body pieces will be included with the sale. The headlight surround is a reproduction part but the light and chrome rim are original and in excellent condition. Taillight is the original and hard to find unit with the only issue being the silver wiring protector that is cracked and broken in places. Wiring harness is solid and unbroken with a very hard to find NOS headlight dimmer switch installed. Air filter box is in excellent shape and the original parts and pieces are all present and accounted for with a UNI filter being used. Handlebar is Moose aluminum and all controls are original with the exception of a new OEM throttle control. Incorrect later OEM kill switch is being used. Included with the sale will be many of the original take-off hard parts, rear shocks and the original carb. I started the bike after re-assembly and it runs fantastic! This is a crisp running and quiet (the original silencer is very effective) off road enduro bike that still needs to be broken in before running its first vintage (or modern) enduro event. After this initial run-in the gas was drained from the tank and carburetor for storage this winter. Visits to see the bike before the sale are encouraged. The buyer may, after inspection, cancel the purchase if this bike isn't exactly as I've described and I will refund any deposit. This bike is sold with no warranty given or implied. The buyer must arrange for their own shipping of the motorcycle but I will be happy to work with the buyer on shipping logistics. Bike can be stored for up to 2 weeks until picked up.
