Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 BMW takes credit for inventing the Off Road Adventure motorcycle industry justifiably with their introduction of the R80GS in 1981. What was basically a converted street version of their Air Cooled Boxer Twin bodied with high fenders, high mount exhaust system, a bit longer suspension (in this case, a single side swing arm with one shock), off road capable rim sizes and mounts for hard luggage, this mount was the first to yell out, “Point me anywhere and we will go”. It was first ignored, but with BMW winning the Paris to Dakar Rally (running twin rear shocks, btw), sales soared and it became the perfect tool for anyone wanting to venture beyond where pavement ended and adventures started. I bought one immediately and without really thinking it through, rode it through Europe, North Africa and Mexico. It did not occur to me it was heavy, under suspended and under powered but it led me to some great moments way off the pavement. No one else noticed either, in fact, over the years, the bikes have just gotten bigger and heavier as they get taken deeper and deeper into the unknown. This particular bike has mostly local history, but we have service invoices dating back to 1990 starting with Plam BMW in Soquel, California. We have service history and receipts from Hansen’s BMW for a Rebuilt Transmission, Rebuilt Upper End, Timing Chain Replacement, Rebuilt Carbs with New Diaphragms and Throttle Shafts and many extensive services. The original Speedometer took a powder at about 35,000 miles and a new unit was installed, now showing 17,072 miles today. All of this before their tech purchased the bike about 3 years ago. From that point on the following improvements were made. Paris/Dakar Fuel Tank, Pairs/Dakar Windscreen, Solo Seat and Rack, YSS Rear Shock, Race Tech Emulator Kit for the Front Forks, Touratech Skid Plate, Factory Heated Grips, Transistorized Diode Board, Electronic Voltage Regulator, HID Head Light, LED Gizmo Tail Light, Rigid Aux LED Lights, Magura Touratech Fat Bar Riser Kit, Acerbis Hand Guards and Front Fender and Over Sized Foot Pegs. The Motorcycle has just been completely serviced and is ready to go. The stock gas tank, front fender and rear shock are included with the bike. Tires are brand new Heidenau’s front and rear.
