Vehicle Detail

I have for sale a 1986 Ford Thunderbird Elan, last year for the top-of-the-line Elan, as well as last year for the individual glass headlights, and first year for the SEFI fuel injection system (same as used in the Mustang for 1986) for the 5.0 V8. 28,000 original miles, and it shows. This car was found in Southern California, it hadn't been driven in about 4 years, but was being started and ran regularly by its elderly (and original) owner. I made a copy of the original 'pink slip' title that came with the car when I bought it, and it will go to the new owner. It now has a clear Missouri title in my name. I bought it to make a sleeper Coyote-powered cruiser out of, but after enjoying it for a bit, I have decided its too nice to cut up and have found another Fox Thunderbird to convert. As mentioned previously, while the Thunderbird had not been on the road in about 4 years when I bought it, it was being started and ran regularly. To make it roadworthy, I drained and flushed the coolant, and replaced the radiator, radiator hoses, and hose clamps. I performed and oil change using Mobil 1 oil and Mobil 1 filter. I also replaced the battery with an Exide military-spec group 56 unit. That was it! The car starts, runs and drives with no funny noises, warning lights, or other surprises. It drives straight ahead with no pulling to either side or wandering, and stops just the same with no squeaking, grinding, or pulsing pedal. Cruise control works perfectly. All the lights, inside and out, work as they should. I just had it inspected by a Missouri State Inspection Station, it passed (no surprise to either me or the inspection technician) and the paperwork will transfer to the new owner. One less hassle to take care of for MO buyers, and for out of state buyers, just a little more peace of mind. The Thunderbird is finished in medium taupe metallic; it is not perfect, but in very nice original condition. The original painted-on brown pinstripe has faded, in some areas more so than others. I took a close-up pic of the left-rear of the car to show the faded striping better. There are some blemishes in the paint, mostly on the top of the front bumper, passenger side. Looks like tree sap or something similar. I did not get aggressive with trying to remove them, because I did not want to make them worse, and the car looks so good as-is in original condition. There is also a scrape on the bottom of the front bumper where it looks like someone bumped into something while parking. The car has a number of dings on both sides; I tried to show them as best I could. The most noticeable are a couple on the middle area of the drivers door, and two right next to the gas door. The matched Michelin tires have plenty of tread and the whitewalls look great. One of the wheel covers has a dent in it, which I pictured. The interior is what really made me fall in love with this car. Like the outside, its not perfect, but its obvious someone put effort into keeping it nice. Not just parking it inside, but keeping it clean and tidy. It still smells new inside! No evidence of ever being smoked in. Dashboard is perfect, as is the headliner. The leather on the steering wheel is immaculate. There are some scuffs on the drivers side map pocket from shoes. The A/C is still running its original R12 and is ICE COLD. Radio works and sounds great. Power locks, power windows, power seat, and power trunk release all work just like new. Trunk is spotless and the original spare tire has never been used. After re-reading my description, It seems like I am being extra-critical of the cars few faults, but I want to be as transparent as possible. I know whoever buys this car will be very pleased with its overall condition, especially for the price. I encourage you or your agent to inspect it in person. I require a $300 deposit within 48 hours of auction close, with the remainder paid with cash or wire transfer to my bank. Cashier checks are acceptable, but will need to clear my bank before the car leaves my possession. I have the Thunderbird stored safely inside my shop for the duration of the auction. I do not transport, but will be happy to work with the auto transporter of your choice. If you have less than 5 feedback, contact me before bidding to verify interest, or your bid will be cancelled and you will be blocked from future bidding. Bidders with excessive bid retractions, do us both a favor and take the games somewhere else. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to message me through eBay, and I will respond in a timely manner. Thanks for reading all this and good luck!
