Vehicle Detail
Time capsule, all original 1979 Jeep Cherokee Golden Eagle, 2 door, wide-track loaded with the right options such as, 360 V8, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning. This Cherokee has only 54,202 original miles. (It had 54,153 when it was parked, back in 1985.) It runs, drives and stops great. When I purchased this vehicle about 8 years ago, it came with paperwork, documenting that it had been parked since 1985. (It was non-opp’ed) Unfortunately I misplaced the paperwork. But Scout’s honer, this is the real deal. I just recently went to the DMV to get it all sorted, expecting a frustrating experience. They searched the history and said, “There was no history of this vehicle in the system so it’s likely been decades off the road.” Of course I already knew this information. Anyway, the title is clear and in my name. This is a California vehicle and it has no rust. The paint and interior are all original. Seats are special “Levi Edition” with the copper Levi buttons. Seats and carpet are nice but could use a cleaning. Headliner is gone. The body is near mint, although the paint has several scratches and chips throughout. Everyone loves the original Golden Eagle decals!Since the car was essentially parked for 30 years, I did the following to get it up and running:* New spark plugs.* Flush the gas tank.* Drained and refilled the radiator.* Changed the oil.* Replaced the battery.* Aired up the tires. The car now runs and drives. Press the accellerator pedal twice in the morning, turn the key and fires on the first crank. Holds a nice high idle until I step on it again about a minute later and drops right down to about 800rpm! I actually drove it to the DMV about 15 miles away. Great oil pressure and temp stays just under half-way. Tires are old and vibrate a bit on the freeway. Speaking of tires, I am 90% sure that the rears are original! All gauges work, A/C needs a charge (or?), rear window works from front switch but the rear switch is missing. All smog intact. Again, this car is very original but could use a good cleaning.Click here for a quick Youtube clip:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0L6IbROuXUThe Golden Eagle was a top trim level:The Golden Eagle option/trim package, available in 1979 only on the Model 17, consisted of the interior features of the Cherokee Chief except with denim fabric seat covers and only available in tan, with the addition of the soft-feel sports steering wheel, and included the same exterior features with these changes: bright ("chrome") door frame moldings; eagle decal on hood, special tape striping on hood, cowl, body sides, and tailgate, and "Golden Eagle" lettering on lower door panels (replacing the "Cherokee Chief" decals); "bronze-tone" tinted rear quarter &flipper windows; black frush guard; 15"x8" styled steel wheels painted gold with black stripes; large "S" medallions behind the rear quarter windows with the "4- wheel drive" badge on the front fenders (in the same places as on the Model 16 &17 "S").
