Vehicle Detail

Coach Builder's custom Cadillac Convertible. This has the hard boot for the convertible top. Coach builder's made around 300 convertibles a year from 77 onwards, when GM discontinued the Caddy convertible. They did great work, the frame is re-inforced. The work they did did not invalidate the warranty, and this car was sold off a Cadillac Dealer's lot as a new vehicle. The quality of the top and mechanism is superior to the 1976 and 1968 models which I have owned. This is a beautiful "pre Arts and Crafts" Caddy that has the classic Detroit look. It has 5 seat belts. My Daily Driver in Texas since 2005 purchased when it had 40,000 miles. Originally a Florida car, it has no rust at all. Runs great. No dents. No tears in any of the seats or dashboard. Wonderful acceleration especially from 50 to 90 mph. Transmission and Motor are strong. Tires have good tread. Struts were replaced a few years back and suspension is even and alignment is good. I have maintained it thoroughly and drove it several times per week to work at an oil company as part of a carpool until I bought a new car last week. It has a parade boot. Air conditioning is good. Caddy power seats work well. Disclaimers: 1) This car has the Northstar motor. It leaks a little oil, only when running. It will drip a drop or two in your garage. I might put in one quart between changes. Cadillac dealers will rebuild and replace gaskets for around $4,000 but will not guarantee work due to inherent design shortcomings. 2) The top became intermittent and would freeze up, sometimes with the convertible hard boot up like a spoiler. We could always get it working again, but no garage was ever tenacious enough to isolate the problem. The motor and the hydraulic cylinders, everything mechanical is fine. The problem is with the electrical wiring or controls. Possibly a corroded grounding screw. I have a wiring diagram but never found the time to work on it myself. Therefore, I have not operated the top for the last year. 3) I was struck several years ago on the right front wheel. All damage was fixed or replaced with the exception of the gouge on the rim. . No frame damage, per the autobody shop, Bear Creek Auto in Houston. They did a great job. I have included a pic of the gouged rim. All I have spoken with say there are no mechanical issues with this gouged rim, only cosmetic. 4) Minor issues: windshield wiper has medium and high, no low or intermittent (likely failed relay). CD player stopped working. One of the Bose speakers will occasionally buzz. The innder door upholstery are loose at the bottom - this is not a difficult or expensive thing to fix. Cosmetically it is like a well cared for 16 year old car - some imperfections.
