Originally purchased as a "nonrunning/sitting xr500". I purchased to tear it down and use as a flattrack engine/carb/throttle, and not need the rest. I come home, fuel drained, new fuel added. Oil change, spark plug, and she fires right up. Not only fires up, but valvetrain sounds great, has gobs and gobs of compression, (hope you have a 500cc kickstarter leg) but after bike is warm, there is zero smoke. Smokes on startup but I've been told its because of the sump style engine. Perhaps a valve adjustment would get rid of some of it, regardless 2 minutes after startup you're smoke free. Pulls very hard from the instant you twist the throttle. NOT a beginner bike. This bike wont win any beauty pageants but if you're looking to ride, to race, for a hunting bike.
