Vehicle Detail
Well hi there! This is a no reserve auction for my 2001 BMW 325xi AWD 4-door sedan in Orient Blue with cream leather. The car has the Executive and Ski packages, so it's loaded with options and a high-compression 2.5L straight-6 engine. I recently moved to New York City: I take the subway to work, on-street parking is like gold dust, and the best quote I've had for garaging is more than my monthly rent was in grad school. But leaving it with relatives on Long Island (where it is right now) just feels like a waste. I've never sold a car on eBay before, so I'm hoping he goes to a good home as I'll be sad to lose him. I drove him cross-country a few weeks ago and topped up all fluids in advance of that. The ride was trouble free and he averaged just over 26mpg fully laden, in some very cold weather, with the heat running and two devices charging in the 12v constantly. Since then he's been taken out on errands by the relatives he's staying with, just to turn the engine over. Pre-purchase inspections and test drives completely welcome. I've used Lemon Protector before and highly recommend them. There's also two dealerships to choose from, if you want a thorough assessment; BMW of Oyster Bay and Habberstad BMW are both close by. The GoodPower. This thing goes like a beast. It's only ever had premium gasoline, so the compression ratio is right up there. Stomp on the gas and it takes off.All-Wheel Drive. This is a great-handling winter car. Never fails to start, never loses traction, loves the snow. Fitted with all-season tires that still have life in them, which I appreciated coming back from the mall in a snowstorm Saturday.Options. This car is loaded, thanks to the Premium and Ski packages. It has ABS, fully-functioning heat and ice-cold A/C, full tan leather and walnut trim, CD player, power steering, power windows, two-way power sunroof, power seats with memory buttons (see photo), heated seats, heated wiper fluid tank, skis/snowboard seat pass-through, steering wheel audio/phone buttons.Looks. The car looks stunning for its age. There's the usual tiny scratch and ding here and there, but absolutely nothing noticeable from any distance. Happy to provide close-up photos of any individual panels and portions if you notice anything in the pics and have questions.New Windshield. Safelite are putting in a new windshield tomorrow (Tuesday), after it picked up a tiny chip on a gritted road last week, so that'll be completely fixed by the time the auction ends. The Not-So-GoodSecondary Air Light. The vacuum lines were replaced last month. Since then, as pictured, the car shows one DTC (code "P0414"), which denotes a shortcut in "Secondary Air Injection System Switching Valve A". The secondary air system is working at full speed, but I can't clear the code (see photo).Shocks. Typical for an E46 BMW, the rear shocks are going faster than the front. It's not at the level where it bothers me while driving, but in time they could do with replacing (there's YouTube videos on how to do it yourself).Headliner. The cloth is coming away from the board in a spot above the passenger-side back seat (see photo). From reading the forums, this is easily remedied with a clothes steamer and a roller, but as I rarely have passengers I've just not gotten around to it. Shipping & Payment I can drive to anywhere on NYC or Long Island to hand over the keys and title. I'm also happy to load the car onto a transporter if you'd like to arrange your own shipping. Alternatively, for the cost of gas and return fare back to NYC, I'd be willing to go anywhere within a day's drive to deliver, provided you're willing to wait for a weekend. I don't like to do it, but I've been warned about bidders who win and then go dark, so deposit of $500 within 48 hours of the auction ending, please. Car is advertised locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Any questions at all, or requests for more photos, just shoot them my way!On Jan-20-16 at 06:55:27 PST, seller added the following information: *Update*Today Safelite replaced the windshield, as mentioned above. The aftermarket windshield and molding that were on the car when I bought it were replaced with a BMW windshield and molding. On Jan-24-16 at 17:33:59 PST, seller added the following information: *Post-Storm Update* The car was garaged during the storm. It emerged today, unscathed, and negotiated under-plowed roads "with ablomb" (per my relative) on the Sunday morning bagel run.
