Vehicle Detail

Beautiful and elegant 1986 Mercedes 560sl in desirable nautical color combination. White exterior, blue top and interior. The car starts and runs great, no noticeable smoke or leaks. Shifts fine. Feels absolutely great, it is a blast to drive. It has brand new Dunlop Tires.I have spent several thousands getting this car to this condition. Yes, every one of these cars needs work, and this was no exception. I bought it at a bargain price of $6500, then double the cost improving the car.It has an old paint job, looks fine and retains gloss, and light colors are very forgiving. I was planning on having it painted when I bought a 500SL AMG (at a much higher price), which happens to be white as well, thus the decision to sell the 560SL at a loss. This car is sold as is, where is. It is a 30 year old vintage car in great condition, but not new and far from a perfect showroom car. Probably better than many of the cars you see advertised here as perfect or completely restored...My recommendation: Come in person and drive it and you will fall in love with it. The other option, if you are far away, hire an inspection company to come to my house and give you an unbiased report. Please do not ask me if the car will travel with no problem across the US. I personally would not hesitate to take it anywhere, but even a brand new car can break, even more a vintage car. Please scroll down and watch all the pictures and comments. The R107 were required in the US to have US bumpers which looked very bad. The European bumpers are a very desirable upgrade option, and every so often you will see them here for sale. A pair of bumpers requiring restoration cost $1400 to $2000. Mint units are rarely found and people ask a fortune for them. I bought the bumpers and brackets and had them installed, at a cost of over $2500. I have the original bumpers in very good condition, and the buyer is welcome to have them. Here is a couple of picture of the car prior to swapping the bumpers: I had a new convertible top installed at over $900. The original had foggy plastic windows, which is common in all these cars. Then I applied a special water proofing treatment that repels the water and protects them from UV rays and makes them last much longer. Then the car received new wood trim, imported from Germany, at over $700. These pieces are not available anywhere else, and there are no vinyl wood imitation kits for the R107. The seats were restored with German material similar to the MB-Tex, at a cost over $700. The door panels are in perfect condition: The dashboard has some cracks, a very common thing to all these cars. The previous owner installed the oem looking dash skin, looks very good and it glued to the original dash. I purchased a steering wheel from an older SL, 1985. The airbags expire, and after 30 years it is useless to have it in please. I installed the better looking wheel, which also has an advantage:It gives you a few inches of room, as the one with the airbag sticks out more. The original steering wheel and airbag are included: The original Becker Grand Prix works, which is pretty rare. The electric antenna is not working. All instruments seem to be in good working order: There is a small ding on the grille upper left side: I bought and installed the original Daimler Benz decal for the windshield: I originally installed european headlights, but they were too dim. I decided to go back to the US headlight setup. The reflector on these lights lose their coating and over time, they become useless. I re-coated them, but still were too dim.I no longer have these available. The original tool set is included: It has a new battery. The jack is in place, and the central locking system works fine. This is the convertible top compartment: The hood pad is in good condition: Under the hood: Carpeting is in good condition. Not perfect. Another view of the seats: Center console and beautiful Burl Wood trim: AC is also working, a must in South Florida where I live. And the battery cover/lid is also there: Last, this is the only reason for selling this car. I bought my dream car, an 85 original AMG. If the 560 was a different color, I would keep them both. It makes no sense to keep two similar cars in the same color.
